Official synopsis (Titan)

For most high elves, the stillness of the Great Pulha Woodlands is paradise. For Acer, it’s been 120 years of stifling calm. Unlike his kin, Acer remembers another life—one as a human in a different world – complete with cravings for adventure, hearty meals, and the thrill of danger. Armed with his bow, spirit-blessed fruit, and centuries of skill, he abandons the sylvan idyll to carve out a new destiny beyond the forest.

In High Elf with a Long Life, creator Kou Narita brings sharp humor and rich fantasy together in an isekai tale where leaving home after a century is just the beginning. Acer’s travels promise perilous dungeons, mythical beasts, and treasures worthy of legend, all while meeting allies (and enemies) as immortal patience finally gives way to excitement. For fans of epic yet lighthearted adventures, this series delivers a fresh spin on the long-life elf trope with humor, heart, and high-stakes action.

My thoughts on this volume (Spoilers!)

This series starts with an introduction to our main character, high elf Acer. After living the slow life deep within a forest for the past 120 years, he’s grown tired of it all. It’s revealed that he actually remembers his past life as a human and knows that he’s missing out on all the entertainment the human world has to offer. It seems like his recollection of his past life only serves as motivation to leave the forest, as it’s not mentioned again after the first chapter.

We follow the story from his perspective, which makes things quite interesting! As a high elf with an incredible life span, he perceives time in a way different from others. So, he’s able to decide he wants to dedicate the next 10 years of his life to learning blacksmithing, or magic, or swordsmanship, without much thought at all—something that a human would no doubt have to dedicate their entire life to.

As Acer moves on from task to task, he befriends a number of different characters. There’s something very special about him, as though he’s a little bit awkward—he has lived in a forest the past 120 years after all—he’s able to befriend just about anyone. He has a very kind and gentle way of thinking, no doubt from growing up surrounded by nature and spirits.

We learn more about him through his various interactions with other characters. At first I was worried it would sadden me to continuously see characters come and go, but it actually didn’t! It makes sense that no one character would be able to stick by him for his entire journey—he’s going to far outlive everyone he meets in the human world. So it’s nice to see that even the seemingly short and insignificant interactions he has with others leaves a mark on him.
