This series is ongoing with six volumes in Japanese, and one in English.

My thoughts on this volume (Spoilers!)

This volume is quite a bit similar to the previous in terms of structure and character relationships. The only difference is Hajime has now fully accepted the fact that he has feelings for Akira. So it’s been finally established that this is a double one-sided love type of romance story.

Personally, my favourite thing about this series is that it’s set in very rural Japan! It adds a lot of unexpected comedy that you wouldn’t typically see in a high school romance: a bear wandering onto campus, and Hajime catching Akira playing with a really big stick she found out in the forest being my two favourites of this volume.

There really isn’t any relationship progression compared to the previous volume, but I’m actually okay with that. The entire plot revolves around Akira and Hajime being too awkward to properly convey their feelings to each other. There wouldn’t be much of a story left to tell had they started dating suddenly. Though with the events that happened at the end of the volume…We’ll have to see how the story progresses from here.

This volume helped me realize something of a pet peeve that I didn’t fully realize I had: people forcibly confessing on their friend’s behalfs. I can’t stand it when characters feel like they understand what their friend needs more than said friend, and offers to help them make their feelings known. It would be one thing if they offer to create a scenario where the friend themselves could confess their feelings, but it’s a whole other thing when they insists on confessing in the friend’s place.

This entire situation almost happens to poor Akira, and I was both angry on her behalf and stressed out at the same time. Insisting on confessing in your friend’s place and then running off to do it before receiving permission, is terrible behaviour! Absolutely inexcusable!
