What’s this series about?
Upon seeing the student body president at an assembly one day, Mashiro falls in love. If it’s for the sake of her oshi (specifically, a beautiful, black-haired boy) she can do anything, so, she works hard to earn a spot next to him. Her hard work pays off, and she spends her high school days in bliss, working to maintain a perfect image to stay next to her perfect president.
When Mashiro joins the student council as a secretary, president Tsubaki falls in love. Everything about her is too cute and too angelic, he just can’t take it. He works to appear cool-headed so that he can continue working alongside her.
The two are madly in love with each other, but neither have fully come to terms with it yet.
My thoughts on this volume (Slight Spoilers!)
This was such a cute volume! The art is gorgeous and it’s a full colour, extra large manga. Reading it was such a treat; I feel like I got through it in the blink of an eye.
I’ve been really enjoying the “two one-sided crushes” trope lately, as you’ll never find yourself worrying about how anyone feels. There’s no drama, and there’s no heartbreak. Instead, these types of stories allow you to focus greatly on the two lead’s dynamic. I find myself able to better appreciate and get a feel for all of the characters in these types of stories, as there isn’t a lot of extra plot happening.
This volume splits its focus between Mashiro and Tsubaki, and we get to see just how much they like each other. Mashiro sees Tsubaki more as an oshi rather than a boy she wants to date. She enjoys just being near him and watching him with hearts in her eyes (only when he’s not looking, of course). Tsubaki also doesn’t seem to be fully aware of his romantic feelings for Mashiro, as he sees her as a beautiful angel, not someone he wants to make his girlfriend.
Tsubaki literally gets cuteness aggression whenever Mashiro is around, but he himself is surprised by it. He just likes her so much and finds her so cute that his body literally can’t handle it.
There are comedic bits laced throughout the volume, with the majority of the comedy coming from the two misunderstanding each other. For example, when they overhear a pair of their classmates talk about how the two of them would make a perfect couple, Tsubaki rips a paper up in excitement at the thought of being near her. Mashiro sees this, and thinks that the idea of dating her makes him so upset her ripped the paper up.
While there are many misunderstandings like these throughout the volume, it never leads to any contempt between the two—this is a stress-free read. The two stay on good terms with each other throughout the volume, and whenever misunderstandings do occur, they are able to talk it out. We love a mature couple who doesn’t let misunderstandings ruin their relationship!
