What’s the series about? (chapter one spoilers!)
Airi and Yukiya are two high school students who meet online by chance while playing a game. The two quickly become internet friends, and Airi eventually invites Yukiya to meet up in real life to attend an event together. The day of the event comes, and both are delighted to meet the other. Yukiya thinks Airi is just too beautiful and can’t believe a girl like her is his online friend. Airi thinks Yukiya is cute and nerdy, exactly what she was expecting, and exactly her type.
As Yukiya is quiet and shy around women and Airi loves to talk, the event goes well, and the two promise to meet again. After going their respective ways, we learn a big secret about both of them—both are the top “bosses” at their respective high schools. That is, both of them are delinquents. Not just any delinquents, but the most fearsome and respected in their social circles. As they both want to preserve their precious friendship, they hide this fact from each other…but will they be able to hide their delinquent ways forever?
My thoughts on this chapter (spoilers for chapter one)
I’m a sucker for a good personality gap (would you call this gap moe?), so of course I loved this! This is only my second josei delinquent series, the first being Takahashi From the Bike Shop. While I love a good shoujo series, I do love the more mature tones that tend to come with josei manga. I really hope more josei delinquent romances start to come out, as it’s one of my favourite sub genres.
I really loved both characters in this chapter, as although they are both hiding their delinquent-ness from the other, it’s clear that’s the only thing they’re hiding. When Yukiya is acting shy and eventually reveals that the only woman he speaks to is his mother, he isn’t lying. He really is a sweet boy who just happens to be very tough in front of his classmates.
Likewise for Airi, when she tells Yukiya she has been so excited they could finally meet she just can’t stop herself from talking non-stop, she isn’t lying. The two of them are so precious, I’m a little worried what will happen if and when their secrets get revealed.
There’s no way the secret doesn’t get revealed…right? I mean, the head delinquent of an all boys school and the head delinquent of an all girls school are bound to meet, right? Honestly I find it a bit more strange that they somehow haven’t even heard of the other yet.
I really hope they continue liking each other even if their true identities are revealed, as they’re still the same underneath the delinquent exterior! Yukiya is still an awkward nerd, and Airi is still a girl who wants to be thought of as pretty. They just happen to both be tougher than your average person.
