Review – Spoilers for Volume Four
Sometimes it’s fun to just turn your brain off and read an out there romance story. Love Potion Paradox has a plot that I would find frustrating if I took it seriously. Thankfully, I knew what I was getting into when I started reading it, so I was able to accept everything as it was thrown at me.
This series uses the loyal knight x lady he serves pairing—one of the most perfect pairings, IMO—so I’m able to be just that more lenient. The plot is more on the simple side, allowing the story to focus mainly on the romance. Every volume is more or less the same, without too much character development from anyone besides Eldin. Again, normally, I would dislike this, but exceptions can be made.
After reincarnating into a spicy romance novel, Renese sets out to set up her favourite character Eldin with his love, the female lead. But once she reincarnates into Renese, the story completely shifts, and it’s crystal clear that Eldin is in love with her, not the lead. Well, it seems to be clear to everyone but her as she continues working to set them up together. After a flurry of events, Eldin is hit with a love potion, causing him to have to do the deed with Renese otherwise the potion’s effects would cause him great agony.
Because of the potion, Renese is unable to understand that he’s actually in love with her. Every time he makes a move on her, she assumes it’s the potion’s effect and tries to not get caught up in her own feelings. In the first few volumes I was okay with it but we’re now on volume four and she still isn’t able to catch a clue. Okay, I can still forgive it.
We finally see her take some action in this volume when she runs away! Leading to one of my favourite scenes in the series to date as we get to see an angry Eldin searching for his lady who drugged him! I’m just hoping now that they’re reunited, she’ll finally come to understand that the potion’s effects have long since worn off…
