Not even her own boyfriend! Smoking in secret is the only way she knows how to de-stress. One day, her former superior who knows about all her screw-ups back in her rookie days transfers from Kansai to her office. While she tries her best not to show any weakness to him, she also finds herself bonding with him over time as he helps her with her stress in his own way!
My thoughts on this volume (Slight Spoilers!)
I looooved this volume so much! Saeka and Chisuwa have such a fun and playful relationship, I really hope there won’t be too much drama for them in the upcoming volumes.
Saeka is an office worker who works hard to be as dependable as possible. Not just in her workplace, but also in her romantic and friendly relationships. She works on becoming a dependable person so tirelessly, she forgets how to allow herself to rely on others. This causes her to slowly get more and more stressed out, and it looks like she may soon explode from all of the stress towards the start of the volume.
Then, almost on cue, Chisuwa makes his entrance. He is the man who trained Saeka when she first started working at their company, and is the only one who knows about how bad she was at the job back then. His appearance gives Saeka an adverse reaction, as she doesn’t want him telling anyone about her dark history—she has worked so hard to maintain her image!
Similarly to how some people revert to their middle school selves when they meet with a close friend they had in middle school, Saeka can’t help but find herself depending on Chisuwa when he’s around. Perhaps it’s because that’s the type of relationship they had before, but he really is an incredibly dependable, sociable person. Even if this was their first meeting, I could picture Saeka still finding herself slowly depending on him as they got to know each other. Their history just allows their new relationship to get a head start.
It’s not exactly as though Saeka wants to stand depending on him like she did all those years ago, but she just can’t help but be drawn to him. When Chisuwa talks to Saeka, he enjoys phrasing things in a roundabout, almost teasing sort of manner. He also enjoys lightly flirting with her, and forces her to allow him to be extra considerate towards her. With all that he does, it would be hard not to start depending on him.
They have this interesting relationship where it’s clear they’re both important to the other, but it’s unclear where things will go from here. While Saeka clearly develops romantic feelings for Chisuwa—again, with him, it would be hard not to fall!—Chisuwa’s feelings remain unknown. He treats her more intimately than their other coworkers, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that he has romantic feelings for her. I get the sense that this will be a slow burn with some ups and downs for Saeka from here on out.
