My thoughts on this volume (Spoilers!)

This is a series that I did have a bit of trouble getting into initially, but my goodness did I enjoy this volume!

Wataya and Sena have had a somewhat delicate relationship up until this point. While Wataya has been obsessive and possessive over her from even before they started dating, it has always been hidden from both her and the reader to a degree. Sena has been portrayed as a more oblivious character, never really understanding things unless explicitly stated to her. She doesn’t seem to catch exactly how down bad Wataya is for her until he explicitly tells her that he’s liked her for some time now.

There was also the whole best friend situation, where Wataya allowed his best friend to treat Sena like dirt despite claiming to love her. I still really don’t understand why he lets his friend get away with being a jerk, but dwelling on it only hampers my enjoyment of the series.

In this volume, a second male lead makes his entrance and takes his exit—this was the fastest I’ve ever seen a second male lead get booted! He quickly notices how Wataya avoids clearly answering Sena’s questions, and is just generally a bit suspicious when it comes to her. Being someone who genuinely cares about Sena, he makes an attempt to have an honest conversation with her to check if she’s okay. Unfortunately Sena has been wearing rose-tinted glasses from the start and insists there’s nothing to worry about.

Of course Wataya finds out that the two spoke and is quick to take action. Ever since he and Sena began dating, he’s been rather strict with her. He establishes rules like “no talking to other boys” and “no having boys alone in your house, not even me”. If I were Sena this would be grounds for breaking up, however how she feels about all the rules up until now has been a bit unclear. Until now.

We finally get to see scary Wataya in this volume! After learning exactly what happened between Sena and the second male lead, he makes his way to his job and explicitly threatens him. Not only that, he also makes a point to brag about just how much Sena is into him and what they did the previous night. It was very much like a dog marking their territory. All this threatening did was make the poor second lead worry more about Sena, so he heads straight to her house to warn her that her boyfriend is insane.

After telling Sena all of the unhinged things Wataya said…Sena asks him to say it again, looking completely lovestruck! It turns out she loves hearing about how crazy he is for her. It doesn’t matter that he likes her enough to threaten others, all that matters is that he likes her a lot, and now she has verbal proof. Of course this is a major turn-off for the second male lead who makes the snap decision to give up on her right then and there. I wasn’t all that torn up about it; I think he deserves to be someone’s first choice.
