My thoughts on this volume (Spoilers!)

When I saw Mizuki’s art on the very first page, I knew this was going to be a good volume.
The majority of this volume follows Nanami as she prepares to put on a festival in her shrine. While we do see bits and pieces of Tomoe and Mizuki’s rivalry, Nanami and all of her efforts are what the main focus is on.
As Nanami is in the middle of learning the Kagura, an infamously difficult dance, a new mysterious character makes an appearance. I noticed this a few volumes prior, but just about every new supernatural character that makes an appearance in this series is incredibly rude to Nanami. All of the other gods, minus the fishy queens, seem to think of her as inferior. It would be one thing if they just decided they dislike Nanami and went on with their lives, but they all choose to try to steal or test her godhood! Mikage is the one who made her god of the shrine in the first place, so I struggle to see how her replacing him affects them in any way.
The new mystery character that appears in this volume is my least favourite out of all of them so far. They suddenly grade her, call her roadside trash, tell her she’s rude for asking for their name, and then knocks her out. Surely there has to be some sort of system that punishes gods for abusing their powers like this. Knowing Nanami she’ll forgive them in the end, but I won’t.
Nevertheless, the trial this character puts Nanami through gives her a new appreciation for Tomoe. While Tomoe has always seen Nanami as his goddess, Nanami’s perception of Tomoe has been shifting around. As a teenage girl, it wouldn’t make sense for her to be able to see him as just her godly helper from the start. I think this volume is the first time she really understands all of the effort he goes through to keep the shrine in tact and her reputation up to standard.
