Now that Akari and Mikage are attending the same high school, surely there will be an opportunity for one of them to confess, right?

My thoughts on this volume (Spoilers!)

This volume was just as charming as the first volume! Both Akari and Mikage are as in love with each other as ever, but still, neither can bring themselves to confess their feelings.

I think my favourite thing about this series is how Akari and Mikage complement each other perfectly. While Akari is more introverted and gloomy, Mikage helps gives her a reason to go out and do things. Likewise, Akari’s charmful clumsiness is able to actually catch Mikage’s interest, giving him a reason to to and better himself. They really bring out the best in each other! As both of them have made progress in their own personal lives over the course of volume one, we get to see them with brand new goals in this volume.

While Mikage is more on the obsessive side, he isn’t so obsessive as to actually harm Akari or her social life (or lack thereof). We see this when Akari finally makes a new friend in her class, Haruto. The two of them quickly bond over a shared love of a certain anime, when Mikage can’t help himself from jumping in. But rather than try and stop the developing friendship, Mikage ends up joining their new friend group! I love how his character is the type to be able to befriend just about anyone. Though it’s clear he initially jumped in due to his jealousy, he was able to stick around because he’s genuinely a nice person to be around.

While there was some actual relationship progression in this volume—they were finally able to exchange Valentine’s chocolates!—I don’t see them actually confessing for quite a while. I can imagine their relationship getting as close to dating as possible, with neither ever bringing their feelings up. It wouldn’t surprise me if the two were to actually start “dating” with neither ever asking the other out.
