My thoughts on this volume (Spoilers!)

This is the volume where my favourite character, the white snake Mizuki, becomes a more prominent cast member!
We start the volume with Tomoe and Kurama fighting as always, however, Kurama gives Tomoe a genuine warning in the midst of their fight. He warns Tomoe that as a teenager, Nanami is prone to falling in love easily. While Tomoe brushes off the remarks, he starts to notice some changes in Nanami. Personally, I think she developed feelings for Tomoe quite a while ago, but he was constantly overlooking it. It’s not until it’s directly brought to his attention that he starts making connections.
My goodness did I feel bad for Nanami after she confessed to him! Not only did she start crying as he turned her down, but he also dangled her over the edge of a tall building until she “snapped out of it”! I don’t think I’d ever be able to get over that trauma…
While I did feel bad for Nanami throughout all this turmoil, it did give Mizuki his chance to weasel his way in. While he is rather sneaky, I just can’t help but like him. While both Mizuki and Kurama have bad relationships with Tomoe, I find myself enjoying the Mizuki/Tomoe relationship the most. Like, when Mizuki took every opportunity to taunt Tomoe when they went to the beach? So entertaining!
While Mizuki can come off as a more villainous character, it’s clear he does respect Nanami in the end. He saved her time and time again while she was trying to rescue Tomoe, even going out of his way to do things he wasn’t asked to. While he does make several remarks that she doesn’t need Tomoe so long as she has him, he always respects her decision to get to Tomoe in the end.
My favourite parts of this volume (Spoilers!)
♡ Nanami helping that girl get a chance to thank Kuruma! I sometimes forget that Nanami is one of the only students who don’t treat him like an idol. Watching him unknowingly turn invisible and subsequently be ignored by everyone was very funny!
♡ Tomoe going into the water to save Nanami’s friend, despite knowing the consequences that would come later.
♡ Mizuki saving Nanami from Isohime! I loved the entire scene of him protecting her even when he technically had no reason to.
♡ Mizuki’s quick thinking, offering to trade that kimono for Tomoe! I really don’t know how he found it…
