My thoughts on this volume (Slight Spoilers!)

With this volume, I can proudly call this one of my two favourite currently ongoing manga series. It’s tied with Love, that’s an Understatement—I love them both too much to rank either at #2, so they are tied for my favourite.
I absolutely adore the way the author depicts relationships. Over the course of the first three volumes, we watch Mizuka and Tenshin slowly grow from sudden roommates who aren’t all that fond of each other, to two people who clearly can’t live without each other. Not just the romantic relationships, Mizuka’s relationships with all of the dragon people are completely unique, with various levels of depth. Reading this manga truly has me feeling like I’m taking a glimpse into the life of a girl who suddenly found herself surrounded by dragon people.
This volume had quite a few moving parts, keeping me well invested throughout. We finally meet Tenshin’s father, we go to work at a “dragon inn”, and we even get to see Mizuka’s old city! Personally, my favourite part of this volume was visiting Mizuka’s old city, as that’s where most of the big feelings were elicited, however I enjoyed each and every page.
Plot-wise, I believe the most important revelation happened rather early in this volume—a potential theory about exactly what happened to Tenshin’s older brother. There have been hints here and there that he had a brother who’s no longer around, but it’s never been expressly talked about until now. While there is still no one who knows for certain what happened to him, at least we have a working theory.
This theory then leads into a larger mystery at play—what happens to dragon people when they leave the village? Is there a reason that dragon people only exist in this one small coastal town in Japan? While come the end of the volume it’s still unclear whether all the theories are mere superstition or not, it’s still incredibly discerning.
Lastly, that little short at the very end of this volume was so cute! I love seeing the little baby dragon hang out with Tenshin and Mizuka, because though Tenshin teaching him things, we also get to learn more about the dragon people! Like, when young dragons are scared, their wings can suddenly pop out—cute! I yearn for more dragon lore.
My favourite parts of this volume (Spoilers!)
🖤 When Mizuka wasn’t sure about leaving Tenshin alone in her old city, he tells her he’ll be fine as he’s “going to hang out with her ex-boyfriend”, and does just that.
🖤 Tenshin deciding that he wants to be able to leave the town without worry for Mizuka’s sake!! If she leaves the town, he wants to be able to follow her!
🖤 Tenshin finding it hilarious that his dad hates Mizuka. The poor girl didn’t realize his disdain for her family, and straight up told him that she won’t be returning Tenshin to him!
🖤 Tenshin protecting Mizuka from that weirdo at the dragon inn.
🖤 Learning that dragon people can somewhat communicate with animals!? That’s so cool!
