Colette Decides to Die / コレットは死ぬことにした – Volume Nine Review

The underworld team of skeletons work their best to train Kotsume, but can he improve enough to be worthy of serving Poseidon before the deadline?

Check out my review of Volume Eight here.

I rate this as a late intermediate – early advanced series. To see my reasonings for my rankings, please click here!

My thoughts on this volume

This is one of my favourite volumes in the series! Kotsume’s story had me almost crying the majority of the time… He’s so cute, I just want him to be happy.

I thought that Kotsume was introduced at a perfect time, as he brought out a different side in just about every character. Watching everyone come together to help Kotsume prepare to return to Poseidon was very touching. As the skeleton’s have been rather harsh on Colette the majority of the time, it was very refreshing to see a new side to them. While they’re still harsh on Kotsume, it clearly comes from a place of concern.

Poor Kotsume was accepted by everyone in the underworld so quickly… it was clear he belonged there from the very beginning.

After things with Kotsume get settled, we finally get some more scenes with just Colette and Hades, and they’re well worth the wait. I think the build-up before the relationship starts can sometimes be more romantic than anything that happens after, and this volume speaks to that.

When Colette and Hades go to the beach… and things ALMOST happen…. and Hades goes along with Colette’s strange antics just because he likes her….! This entire scene was like a treat to readers for reading this far, and I’m so grateful for it.

Things I particularly enjoyed

❤️ Kotsume making literally everyone cry when telling Colette that she’s the first person to ever go looking for him when he went missing.

🧡 Kotsume going for a swim in Hades’ bathtub!! He’s so cute oh my god.

💛 Hades teaching Kotsume how to play his little instrument, and then Kotsume playing a little song for him and Colette.

💚 Colette and the skeletons trying to watch Kotsume and Hades while they’re in the bathtub, not realizing that Hades can clearly see them watching him. He has so much patience.

💛 Hades and Colette coming to console Kotsume after his meeting with Poseidon, and then asking him to come work in the underworld! It’s where he belongs!!

🧡 The beach scene. Oh my god the beach scene.

❤️ Dio accidentally interrupting the beach scene… and then kind of (but not really) getting the wrong impression.

🧡 Poseidon and Hades having a surprise reunion, and Poseidon ultimately conving Hades (in a roundabout way) to stop stringing Colette along.
