Ichikura’s secret may have been revealed… but was it ever actually hidden in the first place?

My thoughts on this volume
With Ichikura’s secret now actually out in the open, he’s finally free to actually be himself in class. While it is a little sad that he and Momose no longer have this little secret between just the two of them, it was really nice to see just how quickly all of his classmates accepted him. Although his secret is out now, it really doesn’t affect how he acts on a day to day basis. As he’s adamant that he’s a former yankee, it makes sense that he still more or less acts the way he always has.
It was really nice to learn more about Ichikura’s past in this volume! I do feel like there was a bit more focus on him than Momose overall, but it wasn’t to a point that bothered me at all. We learnt that one of his middle school teachers had such a lasting effect on him that he himself wants to be a teacher one day. I love that he has his own motivations and goals! I hope we also get to learn more about Momose’s goals soon.
I was also happy to see a new character introduced in this volume—a female yankee, at that! It was really fun watching her interact so differently with Momose and Ichikura, and I’m really hoping to see more of her as the series progresses. Her appearance did bring about some jealousy in Momose (which I typically don’t love as a plotline), but thankfully everything was ironed out quickly.
This series has a way of taking tropes that I typically don’t enjoy and turning them on their head. There’s such a lighthearted, comedic atmosphere most of the time that it can get away with things I usually wouldn’t let a story get away with.
Things I particularly enjoyed
❤️ Ichikura’s classmates letting him know they all assumed he used to be a yankee before he could really digest the situation. He really does act suspiciously at times, it would be weirder if they didn’t suspect anything.
🧡 Ichikura and Momose hiding from the younger students who were trying to hit on Ichikura – it let to a really sweet moment between the two.
💛 Sakyou’s introduction – her going from beating up some random guy to politely introducing herself to Momose was a perfect glimpse into what kind of character she is.
💚 Momose getting a makeover from a gyaru classmate before meeting up with Sakyou – this whole situation led to multiple misunderstandings, all of them incredibly funny.
💛 Sakyou wanting to be able to make female friends, but not wanting to show off her violent side – she’s very similar to Ichikura in a lot of ways!
