Colette visits the sea for the first time, and makes an adorable new friend in this volume!

My thoughts on this volume
The end of Volume Seven teased the introduction of a talking otter character, and I’m not going to lie, I was very nervous. I tend to strongly dislike mascot characters (looking at you, Morgana), and since Colette is my favourite shoujo series, I wasn’t ready for something to shake my love for the series.
Thankfully, Yukimura has a way of creating the most lovely characters. Kotsume the otter’s storyline ended up being one of my favourite parts of this volume! Although they aren’t the most skilled worker, they do their best. I feel like Kotsume’s character really highlights the fact that it’s okay to not be the best at everything, so long as you’re giving it your all.
I think this volume did a good job of focusing on various characters. We got to see a lot of the skeletons as they trained Kotsume, we learned a little bit more about Karon and the blessings that Hades gives them, and got some one-on-one time with Colette and Hades.
Slowly but surely, the underworld family is growing larger and larger, and it’s really nice to see Hades gaining new allies! It’s also nice to see Colette spend the night in the underworld, as even Hades mentions that he was surprised when he woke up to her still being there. I just wish she would move there already!~
My favourite Colette volumes are the ones that primarily take place in the underworld, so it’s safe to say that I really enjoyed this one!
Things I particularly enjoyed
❤️ Colette bringing Kotsume along to see Lord Hades, and him just accepting it. I love that he’s learned to just go along with Colette’s shenanigans by this point.
🧡 The skeletons taking Kotsume in as one of their own – it’s all just too cute.
💛 Kotsume’s cute way of talking – perhaps because he’s an otter, although he’s able to speak, he has something of a speech impediment. It just adds to his character though, and it’s nice to see no one in Hades’ domain use this against him—he can’t help the fact that this is how he speaks.
💚 Literally everyone in Hades’ realm coming to his defense when he accidentally spills wine on Lord Hades. He wasn’t even mad, but everyone was so concerned for the poor otter.
💛 The skeletons making a little makeshift costume for Kotsume so that he can glide across the floor and clean it at the same time.
🧡 Colette and Hades making themselves invisible so that they could spy on the attendants, and almost getting found out by the dogs.
