I was so sure that I had posted a review for this series, but when I went to make my review of volume 2 I noticed that I didn’t. Woops! Better late than never, right?

What happens in volume 1?
Chisaki, a second year high school student, is known by her classmates as a “walking matching app”. She just loves love, and does everything in her power to help love come to fruition. Her classmates often come to her to get her help in staging love confessions, and Chisaki helps with everything from setting the stage to choosing the right words.

“Help me, Matching App Senpai!”
One day, as she’s watching a romance drama on the roof, Chisaki runs into a somewhat-famously handsome underclassman. As they’re in the middle of a somewhat awkward conversation, the underclassman (Reo)’s friend suddenly bursts in, begging Chisaki for her help.
Chisaki ends up agreeing, and she and Reo end up tailing the friend and a girl as they go on a date. Chisaki provides support throughout the date, and with Reo’s help the date goes on successfully!
After the date ends successfully, Chisaki and Reo end up talking a bit, where Reo questions who Chisaki always goes so far out of her way for the sake of other people. Chisaki replies with her reasoning of just loving love, and Reo tells her that she should try and be more supportive of her own love life, not just the love lives of those around her.
The same friend approaches Chisaki again, this time asking her to come to a mixer to support him. She agrees, and Leo asks to tag along again. After a little while, Chisaki notices a girl isn’t really enjoying talking to a boy who seems to be really into her, and without hesitation Chisaki butts in, giving the girl an out. Chisaki, being ever-so outgoing, has no problem keeping up a conversation with this boy, and unfortunately gives him the wrong idea.
After the event ends, the boy follows Chisaki out, and tells her that they should date as he wants a girlfriend. Chisaki points out that she wants to support love, not whatever dubious intentions he has, and before he has much time to react Reo pops up and saves her from the awkward situation.

Post-Confrontation Chinese Food
After Chisaki and Reo were able to end the awkwardness, Reo takes Chisaki to get some Chinese food. As they’re eating Reo gets Chisaki to tell him more about exactly why she’s so much more invested in other people’s love lives than her own. She talks about her own failed love story and how it still affects her to this day.
Reo gives her some sound advice, and tells her that rather than dwelling on the past she should instead focus on the future. Chisaki agrees with him and offers to support him in anything he needs in return for the advice. Reo accepts the support, asking her to please help him succeed in dating someone: Chisaki herself.
The next day at school, Chisaki tells herself, and Reo, that he wasn’t actually serious when he said that he wanted to date her. In response, Reo just straight up tells her that he likes her. As she’s still apprehensive at this point, Reo challenges her to find 10 things about him that she likes. If she does that, she may be able to think of him as someone she wants to date, he tells her.

After School Trial Date
While Chisaki and Reo are already getting quite a bit closer, Reo invites Chisaki on a “trial date” so that she can see how dating him would look.
They go to a skating rink, and Reo takes part in a race to win Chisaki a stuffed lion. While he does win the prize, Chisaki ends up giving it to a little girl in the end. When giving Reo the explanation of “I don’t need the lion, because I have you beside me”, Reo asks if that means he’s passed the boyfriend test.

Before Chisaki can answer though, her ex-boyfriend makes an appearance. He doesn’t stay for long though, and Reo even introduces himself as her current boyfriend. Chisaki doesn’t give Reo a definitive answer during this date, however not long after, the two do start dating.
Maddies Ratings
The characters
I really enjoyed both the story, and the characters of this volume!
Chisaki is such a sweet character, and I loved following her along on the start of her love journey. I understand her hesitation towards accepting Reo’s feelings, and I really liked how we were introduced to her backstory. I probably wouldn’t have liked her as much as I did if she were to just constantly turn Reo down without any reasoning.
Reo was also an incredibly sweet character! I do wish that we were shown exactly why he liked Chisaki so much in this volume (we’ll see in volume 2!). There were a few times throughout the volume where I didn’t really know why he did what he did. I do really love him as a character, and I grow to like him a lot more in volume 2, but I wasn’t always on the same page as him on volume 1.
Romance
Even though they don’t start dating until the end of this volume, the romance in this series is top tier. There is SO much fluff, and the art style complements the type of romance beautifully.
Storytelling
This volume is completely linear, and I do like that we are able to follow along as Chisaki and Reo meet, and then slowly (or not-so-slowly) grow closer and closer. I loved that they started dating at the end of the volume, and that we were able to watch Chisaki grow to accept Reo’s feelings for her.
