Despite its current popularity, this manga was actually a blind buy for me! I came across it by chance during an online manga sale, thought the premise seemed interesting, and took a chance on it—and I’m so happy I did! This is probably my favorite ongoing shoujo manga after Hikaeme ni Itte mo. I hope the author keeps it running for a long time, but it looks like there are only two volumes out as of right now.
Plot Summary
All sugar, no spice, and everything nice… that’s the impression the beautiful first-year high schooler and “heartthrob angel” class president Otogi Katsura gives to those around her. In reality, Otogi is brash, assertive, and has no problem calling out a jerk when she sees one—the complete opposite of her soft spoken vice presidential counterpart, the equally beautiful and seemingly perfect Toki Ninomae. One day, when a group of boys try to hit on her at the train station, Otogi doesn’t hold back and gives them a piece of her mind—and, to her surprise, Toki enjoys seeing this side of her. Not only that, it turns out the seemingly polite, put-together vice president has a hidden side of his own… and Otogi now finds him more attractive than ever! Now “partners-in-crime,” Otogi and Toki agree to keep their hidden sides a secret from the rest of their classmates—but could this shared, dark secret also bring them closer together…?!
First Impressions
I feel like the whole premise of having a completely different, private personality from the one you show to the public is very Japanese.
I love everything about Otogi and Toki—their funny personalities and character designs. I found both of them absolutely charming, and the scenes where Toki lets his mask slip a little for Otogi, leaving her flustered, are just extra cute.
This manga feels like the type that doesn’t add any unnecessary love triangles, which I really appreciate! There is some minor strife throughout the volume, but it only serves to bring the two closer together. I really think this manga doesn’t need any bigger bumps than those in this volume. I’d much rather watch how the two characters’ stories grow and intertwine than see them go through rollercoasters together.
My Favourites
- Otogi being easily flustered despite being called the schools “Madonna” is just so cute
- Both Toki’s calm and polite mask, and true personality are really fun to watch
- There are no unnecessary character introductions
My Least-Favourites
- Nothing yet~
My Ratings
Plot
It’s pretty typical for a shoujo manga set in a high school. The stand-out factor comes from the two main characters and their personality gaps.
Characters
Otogi and Toki both have nothing but cute attributes.
Cuteness
Literally this is the cutest story I’ve read in weeks.
The Characters
Otogi Katsura
- Known as the schools Madonna, but finds the nickname embarrassing
- Was on the lookout for her “perfect first boyfriend” to help her act
- President of the student council
Toki Ninomae
- Vice president of the student council
- Not afraid of confrontation – very reliable~
- Good at catching Otogi off guard
Final Thoughts
I had to wait until there was another sale to be able to buy volume 2, but it’s finally on its way!! I’m really excited to see where this story goes.
