Genre options

There are 6 genres of manga in which Amazon free reads: Shonen (for younger boys), seinen (for older men), shojo (for younger girls), josei (for older women, BL, and indie. There is also an “all” section, showing the current most popular free manga.

Degrees of free

There are several types of “free” comics that Amazon offers.

• Limited time free
• Free to read on a browser
• Free to read forever after downloading

If you sign up for “Kindle Unlimited”, for roughly 10$ a month you will gain all you can read access to a large manga library. The first month is free, however you do need to enter payment details when you first sign up. For more information, you can check it out on Amazon here.

Can I read a whole series for free?

Probably not.

Typically, if a manga is in the free section, it will only be the first 1 to 3 chapters or volumes of a manga. I have seen cases where a whole indie series is offered for free, but that doesn’t happen all that often.

I have absolutely no complaints with this. Usually I know if I want to continue reading a series after reading the free copies, and have no problem paying for the following edition.
