Volume three is another solid edition to this fantasy adventure series. We see our group of travelers almost get their hands on the second letter of recommendation—are things about to come to an end?

My thoughts on this volume
This is the type of series that I need to really give my all to read. It’s the exact opposite of a comfort read—it’s a fantasy series that requires you to pay full attention from first page to last. This isn’t to say this series isn’t comforting, just that you may find yourself a little bit tired after reading it.
Volume one was my first introduction to the LaLa imprint, and it’s one of the reasons it’s quickly become one of my favourites! I knew I would love this series right from page one, and every volume just gets better and better.
The gang that we follow in this series grows bigger and bigger in every volume, but the main focus is always on Quinta and Nestor. I have been really enjoying the flow of the story, as the author always finds a way to carve out some time to give the side characters their chance to shine. I’ve especially been enjoying watching Quinta and Nestor’s best friends curious relationship. As we learn that Nestor is the one who overheard Quinta’s secret in this volume, I had thought this would bring them closer together. It did quite the opposite though, and I actually enjoyed this! All of the characters have their own unique motivations, and their own strong personalities. It’s very fun watching some characters clash and others get along.
I’m also really enjoying the slow-burn relationship between Quinta and Nestor in this volume, as this volume really amped it up. They only really get their romantic scenes in the middle of danger, which just makes everything a little bit more intense.
This volume ended in a rather unique way to the previous two, with the action still very much happening. As things feel like they’re coming to a head—even though we’re not even halfway finished with the series—I get the feeling that Nestor will soon be told Quinta’s secret. Why else would that new, incredibly powerful, somewhat resembling Quinta witch appear?
Things I particularly enjoyed
❤️ Nestor saying that not being able to research things would be the same as dying—the poor man just wants to study things, and everyone’s just getting in his way.
🧡 The antler festival!! I feel like this was included for a more light-hearted change of pace after the events of the previous volume, and it was well appreciated! We got to see some of our characters in a new light, and it was all-around. very fun.
💛 The Horntora’s human forms!! So cute!! Fio is the absolute cutest no matter what form they’re in… but it was so fun watching him silently help Quinta and Nestor. I hope they stay together as a little family forever.
💚 Quinta practicing her dance steps with Fio… and Fio being better at dancing than her. This also ended up leading to a nice scene between her and Nestor!
💛 Nestor literally drugging Nicole to sleep because she didn’t want him and Quinta to sleep in the same room. Her heart’s in the right place.
🧡 Quinta stealing things because she knows Nestor wants them—inadvertently saving his life!
❤️ Nestor jokingly accusing Quinta of cheating on him when he spotted her alone with his best friend. I love their relationship so much, they have such good banter!!
🧡 The use of the mysterious magical stones! It makes sense why Nestor is so interested in them! I hope we get to see other in the upcoming volumes, but I think the silencing stone was the most interesting.
💛 The new mysterious witch!! Who is she!? Why does she have similar marking on her face to Quinta!?
