Love, That’s an Understatement /ひかえめに言っても、これは愛 Volume Six – Manga Review

As Lisa has her own love rival in Fumin, it only makes sense that a rival for Zen be introduced as well, right?

Check out my review of the previous volumes here: Volume Five, Volume Four, Volume Three, Volume Two, Volume One.

My thoughts on this volume

Is it just me, or does Zen give off really strong “dependable big brother” vibes? Never mind the fact that he has two older sisters. Watching him and Lisa on their zoo date just heightened this feeling for me, especially when he offered to let a kid sit on his shoulders so that he could see. How sweet!

I was rather upset with Kuma for the majority of this volume—it felt like she was introduced just to cause unneeded drama. I understand the drama has been a little bit lopsided in this series until now: Lisa has (kind of) Fumin, but Zen didn’t have anyone. Now he does, I guess. But, did she really need to crash their zoo date? Lisa spent so long scheduling their date, just for it to be cut short when Zen had to take Kuma to the hospital. And did she really need to be sped off to the hospital like that after just twisting her leg a little bit? One of her friends should have piggybacked her to a taxi.

Thankfully Zen realizes that he messed up by leaving Lisa alone, and waits outside her house in the rain until she returns home. Honestly even when he messes up, he knows how to fix it right away. He’s genuinely the perfect boyfriend. And after all this happens, he all but promises Lisa that he’ll never leave her behind again—and he doesn’t!

We see some more of Zen’s friends as well in this volume, and we also get a few sweet moments between Zen and Lisa. Overall, I felt very satisfied after reading this volume—it had a little bit of everything. There’s drama, forgiveness, friendship, romance… everything you could want in a romance manga!

Things I particularly enjoyed

❤️ Fumin misunderstanding Lisa handing out blankets (she was tasked with giving the cram school’s blankets out to third years, but he thought she was lending him her personal blanket).

🧡 Zen catching Lisa right before she trips at the zoo – this author has a way of skillfully adding in a little extra romance here and there, always at the perfect time!

💛 Zen confiding in Lisa, explaining exactly what happened to him when he was accused of shoplifting. It gives some backstory as to exactly why he and his friend group are so close.

💚 Lisa ending up being absolutely fine after Zen left her by herself—she knows how to have fun on her own! She doesn’t need a man with her to have a good time!

💛 Lisa and Zen’s sister’s relationship – I love how similar to Zen, but still unique in her own way, his sister is!

🧡 Lisa sticking her sticky note on Zen’s back… and him not realizing until he got changed that night. And then completely freaking out when he finally did notice.
