
It’s time for our daily Japanese vocabulary! It’s important to study a little bit every day, so let’s work hard to remember one new word every single day.
Today’s word is ochokuru!
~ Please remember that I use a mix of formal and casual Japanese in these posts! I use the type of language often found in shoujo manga~

What does ochokuru mean?
Ochokuru is a verb that can be translated into English as: to tease, to make fun of (playfully).
The Kanji, it’s meaning, and it’s reading in hiragana
We use only hiragana to write this word: おちょくる
Let’s try using おちょくる・ochokuru in a sentence!
Example 1
English: I’m being completely strung along!
Romaji only: Kanzen ni ochokurareteru!
Hiragana only: かんぜん に おちょくられてる!
Final: 完全におちょくられてる!
Example 2
English: You’re teasing me again, aren’t you..
Romaji only: mata ochokutteru desho。
Hiragana only: また おちょくってる でしょ。
Final: またおちょくってるでしょ。
Example 3
English: Enough is enough, would you stop teasing me?
Romaji only: Mou, ochokuru no yamete kurenai?
Hiragana only: もう、おちょくる の やめて くれない?
Final: もう、おちょくるのやめてくれない?
Example 4
English: That you’re teasing me this much… You like me, don’t you.
Romaji only: Konnani ochokuru to wa… watashi no koto suki desho.
Hiragana only: こんなに おちょくる と は。。。わたし の こと すき でしょ。
Final: こんなにおちょくるとは。。。私のこと好きでしょ。
Example 5
English: He is always teasing me.
Romaji only: Kare wa itsumo watashi o ochokutte kuru wa.
Hiragana only: かれ は いつも わたし を おちょくって くる わ。
Final: 彼はいつも私をおちょくってくるわ。
