Mochizuki-san-ka no Yankee / 望月さん家のヤンキー, Chapter 1 Manga Review

Would you be happy if your family brought in someone to take care of the chores because you’re just that bad at them?

What’s this manga about?

After her mother died, our main character, Arika, has been in charge of all of the housekeeping in her house. Unbeknownst to her, one day her father brings in a new housekeeper. He explains that both he and her younger siblings are just about at their limit when it comes to eating her cooking, and that he’s throwing in the towel.

When the housekeeper makes his entrance, we learn that Arika is already well acquainted with him, as he is the yankee in her class. Although she doesn’t seem to know anything about him besides the fact that he’s a yankee, that’s enough for her to hate him. She immediately demands her father fire him, but unfortunately they’re already signed a work contract.

Even after realizing that her yankee housekeeper, Kuraku, is an amazing chef, she still cannot bring herself to accept him into her house. So much so that she childishly challenges him to a fight: if she wins, he quits. If he wins, he gets nothing. He accepts and loses, and Arika runs home to tell her young siblings that she hates the housekeeper, and that he’s not coming back.

This isn’t the end of their story though, as one day while she’s lamenting to herself out loud about how much she hates yankee, two random yankee boys think she’s talking about them. They begin accosting her, when Kuraku swoops in and saves her. To show her appreciation, she allows him to come back and work for the family.

What I Like About This Manga

💜 I like the idea of a yankee who can cook well!

💙 Arika’s dad is really cute – he sees Kuraku being in a difficult spot, and helps him out!

💚 Arika’s siblings are very cute as well – I thought it was sweet how they just automatically accepted Kuraku as their new older brother.
