Bocchi, Nishihara-kun ni Dekiaisareru / ぼっち、西原くんに溺愛される – Chapter Two Mini Review

If you’re a fan of delinquent x shy student romances, I high recommend you check out this one! While the art style is slightly grittier than the currently popular yankee romances currently out there, I think it fits the story perfectly.

This one is still in its infancy, with the first volume not even out yet! So, I think now is the best time to start getting into it!

A quick recap of chapter 2

While Yui is still struggling to make friends, she found herself able to have a full conversation with one of her classmates! While she was riding this socialization high, Nishihara enters the room, with a rather tattered shirt.

He explains that someone came picking a fight that morning, and assures Yui to not worry, as he paid his assaulter back in full. Before Yui can properly react to the violence, Nishihara asks her about her cat, and she completely lets her guard down.

As she’s joyfully showing off her full album of cat pictures to him, she offers to fix his shirt for him, which he happily accepts. As she’s sewing it back up, the assaulter from the morning returned, looking for payback. We see that Nishihara completely ripped the sleeves from his shirt off, and he explains that all of his classmates have been laughing at him.

Before he can even finish trying to start the fight, Nishihara kicks him down and sits on him, putting a quick stop to everything.

Unfortunately this violence has Yui absolutely terrified once again, and she runs away.

My Thoughts on the Volume

I’m really enjoying this series so far! I think there’s a really good balance of comedy and more (slightly) series tones, and I haven’t found myself bored at any point in reading.

I’m a fan of the “opposites attract” trope, and these two main characters could not be any more opposite. It’s pretty obvious that Nishihara has feelings for Yui already, but I don’t think Yui really feels anything for him besides fear at this point. I’m curious to see whether this will be a slow burn story, or if Yui suddenly realizes her feelings without warning one chapter.
