Kodansha’s New Spring Romance Manga – 3 Series You Should Keep An Eye Out For

Yesterday, much to the surprise of many shoujo and josei manga fans, Kodansha announced a huge list of long awaited romance manga licences! While the spotlight may have been stolen by the MARS announcement, there are a few series that I think you should keep in the back of your mind!

If you want to see the entire list of announcements, you can check it out on Kodansha’s website here.

Hitting Rewind With You / Okuremashite Seishun / おくれまして青春

Some info about this manga

  • The romance in this is incredibly fluffy.
  • Very respectful relationship – they meet when he saves her from a group of men harassing her.
  • They share an unconventional hobby – they both enjoy cosplaying as high schoolers.

A Quick Recap

Wakaba is a 20 year old university student. When she was in high school, she was never really able to live a fulfilling social life due to her focusing on her studies so hard. So, now that she’s a college student with ample time on her hands, she has decided to cosplay as a high school student and go live out the life that she was not able to live when she was actually in high school.

So, she gets dressed up, and decides to take herself out on a date. Even though she’s on a date by herself, it’s actually surprisingly fun: being in the high school uniform just kind of makes everything a little bit more special for some reason. While she’s on her single date though, she’s approached by some rather creepy looking men who mistake her for a high school student. When she is being pestered to go out with them, she is promptly rescued by who will become our male lead, Fumito….

Love at First Memory / Ore to Mouichido Hatsukoi / 俺ともう一度初恋

Some info about this manga

  • This is a reverse-harem series, with one woman and four men.
  • She wake up with memory loss, and all four men insist that they are her boyfriend.
  • There is a lot of mystery – she doesn’t know who she can trust, and needs to carefully put together the missing pieces by herself.

Why I love this manga

If you had complete memory loss, would you be able to fully trust the people who tell you that they’re close to you? That’s what this manga discusses! I find the prospect of wanting to trust those around you, but always having to doubt them at least a little bit, very interesting! We know that at least one of the characters is telling the truth about their relationship with our FL, but everyone is at least a bit suspicious, so I’m excited to follow the story! It’s been a while since I’ve read something with mystery like this in it.

Love Out on a Limb / Bokura no Suki wa Warikirenai / 僕らの好きは割り切れない

Some info about this manga

  • This is a high school, love triangle romance.
  • There are a lot of complex and controversial relationships featured in this series.
  • The FL enters a pretend relationship with someone who secretly loves her so that she can hide her feelings for someone else.

A quick recap

Due to their parents getting divorced, Yui and her brother Hayato were forced to separate when she was only 8 years old. While her brother stayed with their father, Yui moved away with their mother. Now, 8 years later, their parents reconciled after their mother had a health scare, and they are all moving back in together.

While this should be a happy time in all of their lives, Yui has quickly noticed herself going through a very large problem – her brother gets her very flustered. While they have stayed in contact these 8 years, it seems like they haven’t seen each other at all. And now that they’re finally together, she’s really not used to being around him….

Stay tuned for my full review!
