It’s time to talk about some more flowers! Let’s get started!

Red Spider Lily – Higanbana

Have you ever seen this flower? It seems like in flower language, it has a rather sad meaning. I’m not an expert though, so I will not get into that here.

In Japanese, we can call a red spider lily, a ” higanbana “.


The kanji, it’s meaning, and it’s reading in hiragana

We can spell ” higanbana ” using kanji like this: 彼岸花 .


We can break down the meaning of the kanji like this:

彼 – him

岸 – shore

花 – flower


We can spell ” higanbana ” using hiragana like this: ひがんばな .


Cherry Blossom – Sakura

I believe that this is a flower most people already know, but I wanted to add it just in case! This is called a ” sakura “, or, ” cherry blossom “.

We can spell ” sakura ” using hiragana like this: さくら.


Moss Phlox – Shibazakura

This was a completely new flower to me! So, I first had to figure out what the English name was before I could look it up in Japanese…

In Japanese, we can call moss phlox, shibazakura.

We can spell ” shibazakura ” using kanji like this: 芝桜


We can break down the meaning of the kanji like this:

芝 – lawn

桜 – cherry blossom


We can spell ” shibazakura ” using hiragana as しばざくら。
