Maddies Manga

While I am trying to steer away from high school-based shoujo manga, I will still read any with an interesting premise, or tropes that I know I will enjoy. And one of these tropes, is yankee romance!

While this manga isn’t exactly a yankee romance, the male lead is an interesting, delinquent-seeming character. That’s enough for me to want to jump in!

A quick recap of chapter 1

Finding it really difficult to talk to those around her, 15 year old Yui finds herself friendless. Having to choice but to eat her lunch alone, she typically hides out in her classroom and scarfs her food down.

Today is a little bit different though, as the infamous Nishihara comes into the almost-empty class during lunchtime one day, and invites himself to sit with her.

Nishihara is a rather famous person around the school, as he reportedly beat up all of the delinquents at his former middle school. And while his reputation, and his piercings, leave him to be a rather intimidating presence… He’s a surprisingly nice guy! While Yui finds him to be a little bit difficult to understand, she had such a nice time with him that she completely forgot to eat her own lunch.

My Thoughts on the Volume

I enjoyed this introductory chapter! I found the artstyle to be rather unique and charming, and really added to the overall tone of the manga.

I think I will enjoy the male leads character more than the female leads character as I read on, however I don’t have any complaints (so far)! I love the combination of awkward and shy girl x charismatic and tough boy. While I do think she would annoy me if she were portrayed to be any more shy than she is, I think her character is somewhat believable as it is.

I don’t really see myself searching out a physical copy of the series after reading this chapter, but I’m excited to continue reading online!
