While I do love a well written romance manga, I’ve noticed that a good deal of my collection takes place in high school. Not that there’s anything wrong with this, I just think it’s important to highlight the fact that there is a wide variety of romance manga out there!
In this post, I want to highlight four romance manga that take place in university/college, that I enjoyed!
Unmei no Hito ni Deau Hanashi / How I met my Soulmate
Although there is a lot of reminiscing of the female lead’s time in high school, this is a manga that fully takes place in university! The story follows a girl who has only recently moved to Tokyo from her hometown for school, and she’s hoping to make a true connection.
The male lead in this manga is studying dentistry, works at at dental office, and has his own apartment. He also feels very dependable, in my opinion!

Yubisaki to Renren / A Sign of Affection
I feel like this is a very well known story, however I’ve been enjoying it so much lately, I wanted to include it on this list.
Both leads in this manga attend university, and one is living on their own. While there are differing levels of maturity between the two, I feel like that’s exactly what you see at university! The male lead works part time, and enjoys traveling during his down time. While the female lead doesn’t have a job (yet?), she slowly becomes more independent as the story goes on.

Higashisengoku-san no Makeup Doll
This manga tells the story of our female lead as she learns that she too can be cute! It’s got the feeling of a “coming-of-age” story, and I feel like it only really works in a university setting.
University is exactly the time to experiment with your look! I feel like the author got the setting for this story perfect.
The two leads live on their own, right beside each other. They spend a lot of time at each others apartment, and they also go shopping together.

Okuremashite Seishun
After not being able to live their youths to the fullest in high school, the two leads in this manga enjoy spending their free time cosplaying as high school students now that they’re in university. I found this to be a very fun story, with both characters really being able to finally do what they want now that they’re in university.
While there is a lot of talk about, and time spent at high schools, the setting of this manga is undoubtedly university.
