What’s this series about?

Kurume lives a rather busy life, but that comes with the territory when you’re the company president’s personal assistant. Every day brings a different struggle, but luckily she has something that can help her get through even the toughest of days—the promise of a delicious meal.

Every weekend, Kurume resets herself by cooking up an impossible amount of food so that she can eat until she drops. Literally. Is there any better kind of self-care?

My thoughts on this volume (Slight Spoilers!)

This is quite a bit different from what I normally read, but I really enjoyed it! I was sick for the majority of the past week which limited my mental capacity for reading in Japanese, but this volume left me feeling perfectly comforted. If anything, reading it restored my appetite. I wish the volume came with some of the food featured in it…

The premise of this manga is rather simple, but there’s beauty to be found in that! Whenever Kurume goes through something stressful at work, she eats a comforting meal until she overcomes the negative emotions. She never gorges herself, which I think is a really important distinction to make. She cooks up a meal big enough that she could never possible finish eating it on her own, and she never tries to. She does this on purpose, as it allows her to truly eat as much as she wants to. Once she’s finished she uses all of the leftovers for a variety of new meals throughout the week—our food queen is not wasteful!

I enjoyed how in-depth this volume went with all of her cooking and shopping. It was informative enough that I understood what she was eating and also could probably try cooking whatever myself, but never so informative that I felt like I was just reading a recipe in manga-form.

While I did find almost everything Kurume ate in this volume to look delicious, she and I have one big difference in taste—eggs. She makes a ginormous pot of ramen and then adds almost a half carton of eggs to the mix! I’m the type to trade my egg for extra noodles when I go out for ramen, so I just couldn’t relate to the feeling of wanting to eat eggy noodles.

I just can’t wait to see what she eats in the next volume!
