My thoughts on this volume (Spoilers!)

Asa has been falling more and more in love with Nagi, but how does Nagi feel about her? Honestly, I don’t think even he knows.

While this is a more lighthearted rom-com series, it does have some surprisingly heavy undertones at times. All throughout Asa’s antics, there is clearly a fear in the back of both her and Nagi’s minds: once Nagi confesses his feelings, Asa will disappear from his life forever. As Asa has fallen in love with him, of course she doesn’t want to leave the new life she’s grown accustomed to. On the other hand, if she never leaves, she’ll never go home to her mother goddess again. Will she choose to abandon her family for love?

Despite all of these feelings, she does her best to make him fall in love with her. As Nagi is a more complex character, it’s hard to see if all her effort is having an effect on him. We know he finds Asa to be an interesting girl, but I don’t think it’s love just yet. It’s clear he also doesn’t want Asa to go back home yet, but that just may be because he’s finally found an ally in her—not because he sees her romantically.

In this volume we learn more of their backstories, and after finishing it, I found myself hoping that Asa can stay in the human world forever. I mean, the life of a goddess just sounds so lonely in comparison to her current life!

We also get to see more of the suspicious Kansai-ben speaking boy. While it was clear from the start that he is also a god, his intentions remained foggy. In this volume, he really gets his chance to shine. Thankfully, he came to the human world to help Asa, but sadly, he gets into the exact same situation Asa has found herself in—Nagi accidentally stabs him with the Cupid’s bow. So now, we have two gods in love with one human boy who doesn’t understand love.

The majority of the comedy in this volume comes from the god who has found himself suddenly in love with Nagi. As he originally had feelings for Asa, he constantly struggles with seeing her as a rival for Nagi’s love and wanting to save her so he can be with her.
