My thoughts on this volume (Slight Spoilers!)

After the events of the previous volume, we see a lot of character growth from everyone in this volume! Mahiru and her mother are finally able to have a heart to heart conversation, and Shio is slowly becoming more affectionate with Mahiru. While in previous volumes I had difficulty deciding if I wanted to read this series through a “they’re just good friends” lens, or a “they’re more-than-friends” lens, this volume left no doubts in my mind that this is indeed a romance series.

After the biting incident at the petting zoo, Mahiru becomes self-conscious whenever left alone with Shio—she clearly likes him back but is flustered by all the emotions! Despite the awkwardness the two of them are as close as ever, and we get to see them discuss joining the astrology club at school together. Through said club, Mahiru is able to make her first female friend! She’s making so much progress compared to where she was in the first volume, I was so proud! There will be no more talk of her being a see-through person—she now has two friends in her corner who truly see her.

On Shio’s side of things, his mystery is still very prevalent in this volume. While he himself is still unaware of his circumstances, his father finally lets two of his older brothers in on the secret. Naturally, they’re both very angry about it being kept secret for so long, but the father claims that as it’s his fault, he should be the one burdened with finding a solution.

The werewolves family dynamic is always very interesting to see. Though they are on the prideful side, they put family above all else. They all see Shio as a precious addition to their family, so of course the brothers would be upset at something that could potentially harm him! I really liked the three men eventually come together, agreeing to work together to save him.

Outside of Shio and Mahiru’s relationship development, I think my favourite part of this volume was the surprise relationship between Shio’s brother Setsuka and the son of the shrine priest. As Setsuka is the most guarded and weary of humans out of all the werewolves, the fact that he established a relationship with a human shows just how much he cares for Shio. Perhaps through this new relationship he will be able to heal his old wounds?

My favourite parts of this volume (Spoilers!)

🖤 Mahiru and her new friend going out to create resin pendants! Of course she had to make a matching set for herself and Shio~.

🖤 Mahiru and her mom finally making up—I feel like her parents splitting up was a contributing factor to why she saw herself as a see-through person. I’m glad they were finally able to clear the air!

🖤 Anri showing gratitude for his family after finally explaining the Shio situation to two of his sons. He should have told them sooner!

🖤 Yuu just casually breaking down all of Setsuka’s tsundere walls. I’m not sure if he’s just an air-headed kind person, or if he’s incredibly talented at dealing with stubborn people, but either it was was nice to see more of Setsuka.
