TL;DR
This a rather outrageous high school romance featuring an oblivious girl, and the hitman who fell head over heels for her. While there is a lot of violence, it’s always portrayed in a humorous light.
What’s the series about? (chapter one spoilers!)
Konno is a high school girl with a rather depressing social life. Though she tries her hardest to make friends, she hasn’t been able to form any long lasting connections. To make matters worse, her classmates see her efforts as her being a “try-hard”, making it even more difficult for her to engage with anyone.
This doesn’t stop her from trying though, so one day when she sees a man covered in blood standing over an unconscious man in a dark alley, she doesn’t hesitate to give him a handkerchief. The poor guy was covered in blood after all.
The sudden act of kindness catches him off guard, and he retreats before the two of them can have any semblance of a conversation.
This isn’t where their relationship ends though, as the very next day, he appears at her school as an exchange student! He quickly claims the seat next to Konno’s and lets her know that he knows literally everything about her. She shouldn’t be alarmed though, as he’s only so informed because he wants to be her boyfriend.
The only thing that could possibly make things complicated for their new relationship is the fact that he’s a hitman, and his organization wants her dead for witnessing the scene of an attack. There’s no need for Konno to worry, as her new boyfriend promises to always be there to protect her.
My thoughts on this chapter
This was such a fun and crazy chapter, I was so sad when I realized it’s a digital exclusive series! After watching poor Konno try so hard and still fail to make friends with any of her classmates, I was actually a bit relieved to see the hitman Natsuki take such an interest in her.
So what if he’s borderline crazy in his obsession with her? She deserves to be someone’s whole world after being ignored for so long.
The only thing I’m a little worried about is all the violence that may be headed towards her now that the criminal organization has its eye on her, but Natsuki clearly is competent enough to take care of her. If nothing else, at least she’s the centre of attention now, right!?
While if this wasn’t depected in a light-hearted, comedic tone it would be an absolutely terrifying story, if you just open yourself up to going along for the ride…it’s a very fun ride! I find these types of stories work best if you allow yourself to suspend your disbelief a little more than usual when reading manga.
Natsuki is described as being a yandere character, but that hasn’t really come out to play as of yet. While we have already seen a good amount of his obsessive side, I’m ready for a bit more of the crazy. In these types of stories, I feel like such characteristics work best when they’re over exaggerated just a tiny bit.
