TL;DR

This is a romance manga following two adult leads. It’s a type of Cinderella story, with a rich and powerful male lead swooping in to save the day, just because he can.

What’s it about?

Komeda is a third year university student who just cannot catch a break. She is forced to sit and watch as all of her friends land the internships of their dreams, while she has been failing every single interview that she gets. To make matters worse, she is robbed at gunpoint at a convenience store one day, and the man dares to tell her that she is lucky she’s able to look for an internship!

Luckily the two were not alone in the store at the time, and a mysterious man was able to save Komeda’s life. She passes out, and awakens in his mansion to shocking news: this man, Reo, is the son of a conglomerate. In other words, he’s filthy rich. And for some reason, he wants Komeda to be his girlfriend. He further explains to her that there will be a large ball happening soon with other fabulously wealthy people and even reporters, and that he would like Komeda to attend with him.

Just before she is able to answer his proposition, her phone rings—she finally was accepted for an internship. Komeda is the type of woman who wants to earn things for herself, so she promptly turns down the rich man and runs off to begin her new position.

The only potential problem here is the person who called Komeda to offer her the internship called at an ungodly hour. That couldn’t be a sign of something bad to come, could it?

My thoughts on this chapter

If I can gush for a moment here, I loved this chapter so much! It left out all of the things I typically dislike in Cinderella stories, and kept everything that I love. It almost feels like it was tailor made, just for me.

This story features two characters from wildly different worlds. Our protagonist, Komeda, is a university student who just wants to earn her keep. She understands the value of hard work and is willing to put in the hours, but no one is willing to take a chance on her. The poor girl is forced to watch as all her friends get into their top choices for internships, while she gets passed up for everything. That would send just about anyone into a spiral, right?

As she’s a character with such strong morals, it makes sense that she ended up choosing to work for the first company that called her back. Even when she realized it was a “black” company, true to her nature, the reason why she doesn’t quit right on the spot is very clear. She isn’t the type of woman to let others walk over her easily, but she understands the work dynamics at play: interns are at the bottom of the totem pole. No matter who you are, if you’re an intern, you’re not exactly in a position to say no.

It’s thanks to all this set-up that when she finally does end up back with Reo that it feels natural. He never cooerces her to accept his offer, and he never tries to persuade her with sweet lies either. He just makes himself available to her whenever she might need him. He’s genuinely more of a prince charming than the original in my eyes.

Like, conveniently having photoshoots right next door to her new workplace? There’s no way he didn’t look the company and realize that she would eventually need rescuing. Somehow having shoes exactly her size waiting when she breaks a heal? He’s like a magician!

How do I get myself a Reo?
