TL;DR rating
I love this premise so much! Both characters are just too cute, and are just quirky enough without becoming caricatures. I’m looking forward to continuing the story!
What’s this series about? (Spoilers)
As she was about to start high school, our protagonist went to an assembly. The one leading the assembly, the student council president, almost instantly captured her attention, sparking a new obsession.
Being someone who can do just about anything for a man who fits her type, real or fictional, she became instantly determined to be a part of his life. So, she works hard to do a glow up, becomes an honours student, and eventually makes it onto the student council as the secretary.
Now that she’s in a position to be beside the president every day, she does her best to keep her affections for him hidden. While on the inside she’s screaming about how handsome she finds him, on the outside she’s nothing but professional.
It turns out that she’s not the only one with secret affections, as the president has also been secretly in love with her ever since she joined the student council. Just like her, he does his best to hide his affections, however sometimes he just can’t help but slip up a little.
To all of their classmates, the two of them are picture-perfect representatives of the student council. When in actuality, the only reason they are able to feel “otherworldly” to their classmates is because they only have eyes for each other—they’re quite literally always in their own little world.
My thoughts on this volume (Spoilers!)
This series has such a cute premise! While it may feel a little shallow as both characters are motivated by appearances, it clearly goes beyond that. No one would work that hard to join the student council unless they really wanted it—clearly she found him an interesting enough person to warrant the hard work. Even if it was purely just a shallow romance story, it’s cute and funny enough that I could forgive it.
The chapters are a little formulaic, as they typically include a small scenario happening, a small misunderstanding, both characters internally fawning over each other, and then the misunderstanding going away. The method of storytelling and art style really work in its favour, as because the chapters are pretty short, there needs to be a sense of completion in each chapter.
I can see this series going on for quite a while before any confession happens—this is a premise that can really be stretched out! I also don’t see it getting stale at all, it really is a cute idea. If it were to come to print, I would absolutely buy a volume.
