What’s this series about?

Mikan, our female lead, is the granddaughter of a very successful businessman. As he’s getting up there in age, he has begun worrying about his still unmarried granddaughter. So, naturally, he sets her up on a blind date with the grandson of one of his business friends. This grandson just so happens to be incredibly handsome, good at his job, and very wealthy. Mikan doesn’t care to know about any of this, and vehemently refuses to even consider participating in the blind date when her grandfather brings up the topic.

As Mikan wants to marry for love, she truly believes she belongs with the man she is in a casual relationship with. They just slept together for the first time, and he even brought up the topic of marriage—that is what love looks like, right?

So, Mikan skips the blind date, leaving the CEO Yonoi waiting for a girl that would never come. He sets out to find her eventually, explaining how rude it is to no-show to an arranged date. It turns out Yonoi has a bit of a temper and a bad attitude to begin with, so being stood up just added fire to the flames.

Mikan, ever the romantic, understands this gesture as him being genuinely interested in her. As if he wasn’t, he wouldn’t have gone out of his way to find her to tell her she was being rude, right? Though Yonoi wants nothing to do with her, Mikan’s strange personality, combined with both their grandfather’s interference, forces a complicated relationship between the two of them.

My thoughts on this volume (spoilers!)

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. On the one hand, I really dislike Mikan as a female lead. She comes on to Yonoi, telling him that though she has no feelings for him, she wants to sleep with him. She even tells him that if they want to talk about the encounter in the future, they can say she came on to him, because that’s what happened. So, why, when the next day comes, does she literally lock herself in his closet when he says he doesn’t want to be in a relationship with her? She was literally a child throwing a tantrum after not getting her way, and I felt a bit of second-hand embarrassment reading through it.

I find her to be a very childish character in general, who expects everyone to just go along with all of her whims. You can’t agree to have a casual relationship—one with absolutely no romantic feelings—one night, and then freak out the next day when the other person still doesn’t have feelings? I feel like she’s absolutely not mature enough to be sleeping with anyone if this is how she’s going to act.

Although I find her to be an aggravatingly carefree character, I do think Yonoi does a very good job at countering her. Where she is crazy and all over the place, he is cold and calculating. They strangely work together. He seems to be the type of character that needs to be in control of his surroundings, and there’s absolutely no way anyone could ever be in control of this woman.

While Yonoi claims to have absolutely no feelings for her, I don’t think it’s exactly black and white. I can see him being the type to become secretly obsessed, in stark comparison to Mikan showing literally every emotion she’s feeling at all times.

All in all, if you’re looking to get into a serious with a dysfunctional couple, I would recommend this one. While both characters are filled with flaws, they somehow work together to make an entertaining story.
