What’s this manga about?

In Hana’s class, there is a notoriously scary boy. He’s tall dark and handsome, sure, but he’s also quiet and always glaring at someone. When he starts looming over and glaring at poor short Hana, she is quick to apologize—for what? Not even she knows. He laughs at just how timid she is, revealing a hint of his actual personality. This boy, Taisei, is actually one of the sweetest boys in her class. While his looks may be a little intimidating, that doesn’t make him a bad person. The reason he’s always glaring at someone? He needs glasses but refuses to wear them. An all around cutie.

After their initial encounter, the two’s relationship slowly grows better and better…until the two are invited to dinner by their parents. It’s then revealed that their parents decided to get married, and we watch as Taisei and his mother move in with Hana and her father. While Hana feels a sense of loss at this new development, Taisei seems to be happy with it—Hana seems to make his mother happy, and when she’s happy, he’s happy. Again, isn’t he just so cute!?

Will Hana be able to let go of her feelings for Taisei in order to keep the peace in her family? Taisei’s lack of physical boundaries will put her resilience to the test.

My thoughts

As I’m really not a fan of sibling / step-sibling romance series, there have been one or two that broke the mold and made their way into my heart—Spring Storm and Monster, for example. Will this one also grow on me? Only time will tell.

Currently, I am enjoying Hana and Taisei’s overall dynamic—for example, despite appearances, she’s older than him. I find both of them to be very cute characters, and I would have loved watching their relationship play out had their parents not gotten married. Taisei seems to really put family above all else, while it’s still unclear where Hana’s motives lie. She caught herself being happy that Taisei lives with her now, because she can now see more of him—something you think of a crush, not a new brother.

One more point of concern is the parents. Do some parents really only introduce their new romantic interest to their child upon marriage!? That seems a little strange to me, but who am I to judge. I wonder how the parents will react should Hana’s feelings be revealed? I can’t see Taisei’s feelings being revealed, as he is a much more collected character. So collected, I sometimes wonder if he ever had romantic feelings for Hana in the first place. Hana, on the other hand, wears her feelings on her sleeve. How will things turn out, I wonder…
