Japanese Adjectives Quiz

In this blog post, I thought it would be fun to do a little Japanese quiz! I made a graphics video in case you prefer more visually stimulating quizzes, but I will also type everything out like a traditional quiz. Let me know in the comments how well you did!

Please note, I am not a graphic designer—though I try my best, I am not the best designer out there.

Question One:

“私は___な人が好きです。”

A) うれしい

B) げんき

C) こわい

D) かわいい

The answer is… (click me)

B) げんき! Why?: pay attention to what comes in between the blank and the noun—there’s a な there. That’s your hint that a な adjective needs to be placed in the blank. We can’t say うれしいな or こわいな、as both of these are い adjectives, not な adjectives.

Question Two:

“彼女は私より背が___いです。”

A) 高

B) チビ

C) 長

D) 広

The answer is… (click me)

A) 高! Why?: ”背が高い” is a phrase that means “tall”. We can also flip that around with “背が小さい” meaning short.

Question Three:

“私は___と泣きます。”

A) けわしい

B) いそがしい

C) うるさい

D) かなしい

The answer is… (click me)

D) かなしい! Why?: we can translate the question as something like “when I’m ____, I cry.” From there, the most obvious answer is かなしい・sad. Some may cry when they’re いそがしい・busy, however we want the most obvious answer in these types of quizzes.

And that’s it for this quiz! Did you get all three correct? Let me know in the comments!
