What’s this series about?

When young people are on the verge of an untimely death prior to being able to experience love for themselves, the goddess of love saves them by turning them into cupids. Once reborn as a cupid, they are give a mission: to make people fall in love with someone appropriate for them. If they can succeed in creating enough matches, the goddess of love will once again take pity on them, and return them to their bodies.
This series follows young Koharu after she passes away in a tragic accident while still just a high school student. Prior to her passing, she was known by her classmates as an expert matchmaker. With numerous couples existing thanks to her kind interference, she is seen to be very knowledgeable about love, despite never having been in a relationship herself. After the accident, now as a cupid, she continues to prove herself to be something of an expert when it comes to matchmaking.
She’s not the only cupid in existence though, and not every cupid is as serious about proper couplings as Koharu is. When multiple cupids gather and can’t agree on a suitable target of affection, an all-out brawl can take place. While Koharu is very invested in other’s love lives, she is very much not accustomed to fighting—let alone fighting with a cupid’s weapon of choice, a gun.
My thoughts on this volume
I’m always a little bit hesitant to read manga that are given nicknames early on. My expectations, though I try to keep them down, always get raised a little too high, and I tend to end up disappointed—to no fault of the books themselves. Love Bullet, lovingly nicknamed “the red yuri” absolutely lives up to the hype, in my opinion.
I think Kotaru is the perfect matchmaker, and will accumulate her “good points” very quickly. She is a very observant character, and is able to look outside the realm of obvious matches. She also makes a point to try and not destroy friend groups with the addition of romantic interest, really showing just how much thought and care she puts into her job.
I found the action scenes to be incredibly well done, and I typically am not a huge fan of combat in my manga. Perhaps because all of the fighting is done without any malice it’s more tolerable for me? Either way, all of the fighting scenes were very fun, and I was never able to guess who the winner would be up until the very end.
This series isn’t all about fighting though, as there are a few heartbreaking scenes here and there. Specifically, learning more about Kotaru’s backstory, and how the world had moved on since her death—absolutely tragic. While she did a good job of keeping herself composed and accepting that this is just how her life will be from now, it was still a difficult read for me.
I’m curious to learn more about Koharu’s mentor, Kanna. Specifically, why Kanna chose that person as Koharu’s first mission. While Kanna is depicted as a big sister-type in this volume, it felt like there was the slightest bit of malice behind this choice. Or, perhaps they were chosen so that Koharu could come to terms with her fate? I need to see more of Kanna before I can determine my opinion of her.
My favourite parts of this volume (spoilers)
💛 Koharu clearly being the only one genuinely concerned with breaking up the friend group. The other three seemed to just want to get it over with right away!
💚 Literally everything about Chiyo—she comes off as a complete psycho and I love her for it.
💙 Kanna sacrificing herself so that Koharu had the final say in the first love battle! Maybe she is just a really good older sister-type.
❤️ Koharu’s friend having feelings for her all those years after her death…it’s just so sad…
