My Top 3 Manga of February

Let’s take a look at my favourite manga reads of February! While I’ve also been reading a few light novels and Korean manhwa as well, I want to focus just on my manga today.

Note: I decided to only include new-to-me series on this list! I’ve been reading so many fantastic series that I just couldn’t bring myself to pick and choose favourites… So, I thought it would be fun to instead limit myself to only talk about the volume one’s that I read this past month. Let’s take a look!

Natsume’s Book of Friends / 夏目友人帳

Rational

This is one of the kindest series in my collection. It fits in with some of my favourite themes and types of stories found in manga: yokai, scary stories, the importance treating others kindly. This was one of my first iyashi-kei series, and it solidified my love for the sub-genre.

While Natsume’s Book of Friends is a calm, slice of life story, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t touch on some darker themes at times. A lot of the yokai introduced are rather scary creatures! I feel like you could take all of the subject matter and turn it into a serious horror series just by darkening the tone. While I think it is perfect as a more light-hearted series, I do love how versatile it is.

Perfectly Fine on My Own, So My Fiancé Can Twist in the Wind / おひとり様には慣れましたので。 婚約者放置中!

Rational

I grew to really enjoy this series when I first sampled it, but I had no idea just how funny it would become. As someone who typically really isn’t a fan of comedy in her manga, especially not in romance manga, any manga that can genuinely make me laugh is golden in my books.

Our female lead is so delightful, while the male lead rightfully suffers the entire time. I love a good revenge story, so seeing him reaping what he sowed was incredibly satisfying to watch. I hope his repentance arc goes on for quite a while, as he really should have to work to win her back!

Amelia no Koukiteki Romance / アメーリアの好奇的ロマンス

Rational

I have a soft spot for series that start an author! While they aren’t all that common, I tend to enjoy just about every one I come across. This series has quite a few tropes that I enjoy: a female lead that’s hiding a secret; a male lead who while a little promiscuous, has genuine feelings for the female lead; a completely inexperienced female lead X a very experienced male lead.
While I am a fan of toxic male leads, I need them to fit within a tolerable scope. I’ve noticed quite a few series really pushing the envelope with the toxicity. The male lead in this one is just toxic enough to be interesting, but not so toxic that I find him to be mean or distasteful. All in all, he’s my ideal toxic man!
