TL;DR rating
I really enjoyed this volume! It was just as cute as volume one, with some added relationship development! Everything is very slow, which gives ample time to appreciate all of the cuteness.

My thoughts on this volume (Spoilers!)
While this volume was quite a bit shorter than your regular manga, it was still a very fulfilling read. It kept the chill, “everyday school life with a little bit of fantasy mixed in” atmosphere that volume one had, and expanded upon it. This volume had a few less “scary snake” scenes, but it makes up for it in the form of Ookuma, the bear.
While it’s already clear that Hebigami has feelings for Haruna, Haruna seems to only think of him as a friend. Ookuma, the bear shifter, sees this, and instantly uses it as a way to get to Hebigami. I think that he really wants to befriend a fellow shifter, but just doesn’t understand how to make friends. Thus, we get to see Ookuma try to annoy/befriend Hebigami by using Haruna. There really isn’t anything malicious, as Haruna is quick to think of Ookuma as her strange new friend. I really enjoyed their dynamic, as Ookuma is able to bring a totally different perspective to the table! He’s also one of the rare characters that is able to treat Hebigami as a normal person, allowing for some fun scenes.
Of course we get to see Haruna warm Hebigami up with her scarf just about every chapter, and somehow it never gets old. While she is hoping he’ll be able to one day make friends that will warm him up when she’s not nearby, it’s clear he has no interest in getting close to anyone else. I feel like the warm-up scenes are what this series is most known for, and I love every one of them!
I was a little sad that the idea of what happens to the shifters after puberty wasn’t brought up in this volume, as it’s clear it will probably affect the plot in a big way. Thankfully, to make up for that, we did learn some more information about their animalistic quirks! Like, while Hebigami clearly remembers and has control over what he does as a snake, Ookuma does not. And while Ookuma enjoys eating quite a bit, Hebigami just has one big snake meal every day.
This volume ended on a cliffhanger, so I really can’t wait for volume three to come out!
Things I particularly enjoyed (spoilers)
❤️ Hebigami being able to track Haruna through her smell! So snakelike.
🧡 Ookuma needing something interesting to be happening around him for him to be able to stay awake—it seems like his bear side makes him want to hibernate?
💛 Haruno’s friend trying to gently get her to realize that she does indeed have feelings for Hebigami.
💚 The constant hand holding!! They’re so cute!
💛 Haruno and Hebigami fanning each other off in the class! It started a cycle of reciprocation and was very cute.
