Which Kodansha Shoujo Manga Should You Read!?

This is a Maddie-made, just-for-fun quiz that I made! If you’re struggling to find a new shoujo manga to read, why not take my quiz and get a recommendation? All of the series included in this quiz are ongoing in English, with new releases coming soon!

How to play:

There will be four recommendations that you can get! Please keep track of which answer you agree with the most, (for example, if you get 2 A’s, and 3 B’s, then B will be the letter that you agreed with the most). The letter that you agreed with the most will lead you to your recommendation!

While all of the recommendations are romance this time around, they all have their own unique themes! Which undertones sound most interesting to you?

A) I want a fun, upbeat story! I want to read something that is full of supportive friends, and some light-hearted comedy.

B) I want a story full of mystery! I don’t want to know who I can trust, and I want there to be secrets slowly revealed as the story goes on.

C) I want a story with delinquents! I want there to be a bit of drama, and maybe even a love triangle.

D) I want a story with more mature characters. I want to read something that talks about university life, and the complexities that come with it.

What type of female lead do you want to follow in your next read?

A) I want to follow a female lead who isn’t ashamed of her interests, even if others may find them to be a little embarrassing.

B) I want to follow a female lead who discovers herself as her story goes on. I enjoy a kind-hearted character who can get along with just about anyone.

C) I want to follow a female lead who is incredibly capable, but still knows when to depend on those around her.

D) I want to follow a female lead who can sometimes get swept up by her emotions, but always has her heart in the right place.

What type of male lead do you want to follow in your next read?

A) I want the male lead to be a kind person, who can push his embarrassment to the side in order to have fun with the female lead.

B) I want to not know who the male lead is right until the very end! I want there to be a few choices, all with very different personalities.

C) I want the male lead to be the kind of person who is everyone’s friend. I want to watch him grow as a character, and slowly learn to prioritize the female lead.

D) I want the male lead to be the voice of reason in the story—a calm and collect character, in contrast to the more emotional female lead.

A) Two university students have fun cosplaying as high schoolers.

B) A girl wakes up after getting hit by a car, only to find out she was romantically involved with four incredibly handsome men.

C) An honours student is appointed tutor to a group of delinquents after one takes interest in her.

D) A man offers to help his new friend meet her soulmate after an unfortunate first meeting.

Question 5

How long do you want the series to be?

A) I want it to be 5 volumes, with the romantic relationship being established in volume 1. I want the story to continue fleshing out the different relationships.

B) I want it to be 5 volumes, with each volume holding a lot of plot. I want the story to keep my on my toes right until the very end.

C) I want it to be at least 8 volumes, with the romantic relationship being established in volume 1. I want the story to slowly introduce new characters, and to follow the characters as they slowly move through life.

D) I want it to be at least 7 volumes, with the plot following the female lead on her romantic journey. I don’t want any romantic relationships to be established from the first volume, rather I prefer something with a bit more slow burn.
