Kon’yakusha wa Dekiai no Furi / 婚約者は溺愛のふり, Volume Three Manga Review

Now that they’re in an established, secretly pretend, relationship, Rachel and Farhad need to work hard to keep up the act. While public perception was their biggest concern until now, Farhad’s unique circumstances bring new dangers to the couple.

Check out the manga coming out in January that I think are worth a read!

Maddie’s Thoughts on This Volume

Rachel and Farhad’s relationship continues to be rather ambiguous, with Rachel typically taking Farhad at face value, and Farhad’s poker face being just a little bit too good. I’m still enjoying this relationship dynamic, but I’m also glad to see that there is some progress being made. While all of the progress has been from Farhad’s side, hopefully Rachel will follow suit sooner than later.

Personally, I believe that Farhad finds Rachel’s romantic awkwardness to be endearing, but I don’t see him admitting that any time soon. Why else would he choose to stick around through all that Rachel puts him through?

This volume was split up into three arcs, with the majority of the time spent on the first arc. We saw Rachel and Farhad go on a small trip in place of her merchant father, Rachel got to meet Farhad’s mother, and Rachel nursed Farhad back to health after an unexpected incident.

In my opinion, all three arcs were equally strong. While we know that Rachel is made fun of by her typical peers due to her romantic failures, we finally get to meet some of her supporters in this volume! This put the spotlight on Rachel in a different tone, as we really got to see just how capable a character she is. While she’s always been described as being a hard worker, who just so happens to be terrible when it comes to romance, other characters opinions of her tend to not reflect this. So, finally being shown a full cast of characters that appreciate her was nice to see.

What I liked most about this volume (spoilers!)

❤️ Rachel blurting out “who’s your ideal woman!?” at Farhad when she was worried he would move out. She was a little late in asking, but if you don’t ask, you don’t know.

🧡 Everyone in the little village being genuinely happy for Rachel when she introduced Farhad as her fiance. I was just so happy to see she indeed has a big support system.

💛 Rachel putting her own reputation on the line to try and deliver the medicine—she really is such a kind, clever girl, and it’s clear Farhad understands that more and more every volume.

💚 Rachel keeping Farhad up all night…to talk merchant strategy.

💙 Farhad forcefully dragging Rachel to his bed after she throws up in hers… and then she falls asleep holding his hand!

💜 Rachel discreetly learning more about Farhad when she had to become his right hand. She is capable of being nonchalant about things!

💙 THE LAST 3 PAGES OF THE FINAL CHAPTER!? WHAT WAS THAT!?
