As Christmas is fast approaching, I thought it would be fun to talk about some of my favourite Christmas chapters from various shoujo manga! This post is not spoiler free—I do a brief summary of what happens in each of the chapters. Which couple do you think had the best christmas date?

A Condition Called Love / 花野井くんと恋の病
- Volume 1, Chapter 4
I think this manga has the quickest Christmas chapter I’ve ever seen—in the very first volume! In this chapter, we follow Hananoi as he ends his desperate search for Hotaru. He suggests they spend some time together, and he treats her to an amusement park. They do some shopping, have a tasting of a special Christmas menu, and then go skating. While skating, they are treated to some beautiful Christmas lights.
You’ve Got Me, Sempai / まいりました先輩
- Volume 3, Chapter 10
As they were going to be coming back from a trip, Serina and Mizukawa didn’t think they would be able to spend Christmas together. As they were getting off the bus together that evening, Mizukawa brings Serina to his work, and sits her down in a break room. It’s here that he shows her a Christmas cake he secretly had prepared for her. She’s a little upset as she wasn’t able to prepare anything for him, but Mizukawa assures her he didn’t prepare anything besides the cake.
Love, That’s an Understatement / ひかえめに言っても、これは愛
- Volume 7, Chapter 28
Zen and his friends thought it would be fun to have a big Christmas party with everyone, so they invite Lisa and Kuma to Karaoke. There, everyone has a big gift exchange while they play games and eat snacks.
After the party ends, Zen and Lisa slip away to have some alone time. Lisa takes many Christmasy pictures of Zen before they’re able to get some couple shots in as well. They then look at some Christmas lights together.
My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999 / 山田くんとLv999の恋をする
- Volume 6, Chapter 59
This is probably the shortest Christmas chapter on this list. Before Akane heads back home for the holiday, Yamada replaces the necklace he accidentally stepped on at the very beginning of the story. He promises to not step on this one, and Akane promises to not let it fall off her neck in the first place.
Choking on Love / むせるくらいの愛をあげる
- Volume 6, Chapter 24
Due to their very busy schedules, it looked like Hibari and Gaku weren’t going to be able to meet. Though Hibari was just able to make it on time…Gaku was nowhere to be found. Just as she was about to be accosted by some strange men, Gaku makes an appearance. He tells her he prepared a hotel for them to stay in for the night, calls a taxi, and the two of them take off. There is then a cut to black scene, and a “to be continued in the next volume.”
Stomp, Kick, Love / 踏んだり、蹴ったり、愛したり
- Volume 5, Chapter 19
When Kaho is unable to have the bar’s special Christmas menu due to having to work overtime, Akira unexpectedly orders a cake for take out. He waits outside her apartment for her to return, but when she does arrive home, she walks right by him. It takes a second for her to realize it was indeed Akira waiting outside her apartment for her with a Christmas cake. She then invites him in, where they both eat some cake…and she then falls right asleep.
Hitting Rewind With You / 遅れまして青春
- Volume 3, Chapters 10 & 11
This is by far the longest Christmas “chapter” of this list, spanning two chapters! To make Christmas special, Fumito invites Wakaba to his friend’s restaurant. They have a lovely special meal, and when they’re finished eating, the friend comes out to introduce himself to Wakaba. He tells her that he told Fumito to only bring a girl around to meet him when he was serious about her, which tells him that Fumito must really like Wakaba—much to Fumito’s embarrassment. After dinner they go to look at some Christmas lights, and then realize the trains were stopped.
Thankfully they were close to Wakaba’s house when this happened, so the two end up returning to her place. Fumito meets some of her family, and gets a change of clothes—the trains are stopped indefinitely, so he has to spend the night. While they both end up sleeping in Wakaba’s bedroom, they sleep separately. Wakaba waits until she thinks Fumito is truly asleep before confessing her feelings to him but…he’s awake! He replies that he likes her two, and with that, the two are officially dating.
