What’s this series about?
Our protagonist Suu is a teenage girl living the lonely life of an heiress. After a kidnapping incident when she was a child, her would-be school friends were advised by their parents to stay away from her. Now in high school, Suu grew up to be a very lovely, but lonely, girl.
One day on her way home from school, her driver accidentally almost(?) hits a boy at a crosswalk. She ends up taking him home, they agree to call him Yuki when it’s revealed that he has total memory loss. Suu and Yuki bond rather quickly, with Yuki being a very kind, somewhat shy boy.
Not long after she takes him in, she sneaks out to do some shopping alone—normally she has at least one person guarding her. This proved to be a big mistake, as she’s almost instantly targeted by a few rough looking men. Before she meets any real danger though, Yuki unexpectedly swoops in, beating up all of the men by himself. What happened to the shy, gentle-natured, kind boy Suu had just brought in? Was it all an act? It’s not quite clear.
After Yuki shows that he has the physical ability to protect Suu, her father allows him to be her personal bodyguard. He also takes the extra step to ensure the two are in the same class so that Yuki can constantly keep an eye on Suu.
My thoughts on this volume
I LOVE THIS SERIES. I’ve actually been reading this one for quite a while now, I just never got around to formally reviewing this volume for some reason. There is quite literally nothing about this volume that I dislike. I love the “rich only daughter” trope, and Suu meeting and finding her first friend in Yuki was just too perfect. The reader learns about Yuki’s “true” personality right alongside Suu, so her shock feels quite genuine.
I was a tiny bit worried that Yuki would be shown to be a malicious character for a little while when the secret was revealed, but thankfully he seems to truly care for Suu. Not just guarding her body, he puts in a lot of effort to help her get on better terms with her classmates, and he also takes his role of “first friend” really seriously.
There are bits of romance here and there scattered throughout the volume, and they all come in at just the perfect time. Much like the title of the series, Yuki has a habit of literally biting Suu randomly. Personally I really enjoy their relationship—especially because you can’t exactly define it—but I’m worried about what will happen if/when Suu’s father finds out about the more romantic side of it.
Things I particularly enjoyed
❤️ When Suu and Yuki officially become friends, and he pats her on the head!
🧡 When Yuki ousts himself as a yankee-type character—he beat those guys up so quickly? I actually like Yankee Yuki more than gentle Yuki.
💛 Suu watching Yuki sleep… and then just scooting into bed with her when she wakes up.
💚 Suu forcing Yuki to watch horror movies with her because she can’t watch them alone.
