What’s this series about?
Even after learning that her boyfriend is currently married, Kihara continued to date him. Eventually the guilt ate at her, and she was able to gather the courage to break up with him…but he wasn’t going to make it easy. Her now ex-boyfriend does everything in his power to break her down, throwing insults at her every which way.
After hiding in her apartment lobby one day the encounter almost becomes physical, but Kihara’s mysterious neighbour swoops in and calms the situation down. Kihara quickly recognizes this neighbour as one of her old co-workers: Fujiwara.
From this encounter Kihara and Fujiwara quickly begin developing a friendly relationship, but its not without his hiccups. Fujiwara currently works at a “sleep-next-to-you” cafe, where women pay to sleep (literally, just sleep) beside cafe workers. He offers his services to Kihara, who currently suffers night terrors related to her ex-boyfriend. While his presence certainly calms Kihara down, will it be enough to allow her to completely forget her ex?
My thoughts on this volume
I’m actually not too sure how I feel about this series. There was a lot that I did like: an older female FL with a slightly younger ML, he falls for her first, she’s depicted as being “plain” but still beautiful, the list goes on. There was just a lot that I did not like: Kihara knowingly dates a cheater for quite a while, she’s depicted as almost infantile in front of Fujiwara, she’s completely oblivious to Fujiwara’s affections until he spells it out for her…
While I am mixed in my feelings for this series, overall I do think I enjoyed Kihara as the female lead. She is rather capable in most things, and she feels rather realistic. While I dislike her entire relationship with her ex, again, it does feel rather realistic.
I really enjoyed Fujiwara’s character, as he brought out a different side of Fujiwara. I also found it hilarious that he accidently gave her his “sleep-beside-you” cafe business card instead of his actual business card. There were many funny moments scattered throughout this volumes, and the overall reading experience left me feeling just a little bit better than I had prior to reading.
