What’s this series about?
Although Onoue really wants a boyfriend, she has a problem that’s stopping her from reaching her goal—she physically can’t handle physical contact with me. Literally, just about any physical touch at all seems to give her massive nosebleeds. She knows this is a problem she needs to overcome, but isn’t exactly sure how to go about solving it.
We then meet her upperclassman, Okita. We first see him making out with one girl… and then a completely different one not long after. He tells Onoue that he enjoys seeing various girls at the same time, and that having just one girlfriend would be stifling. The girls he sees seem to share his viewpoint, all agreeing that it’s nice to have various people to date whenever they are in the mood. The only person who has any problem with these actions seems to be Onoue.
While Okita first found Onoue to be a little too troublesome—her lack of experience and righteousness make her a very different person from him—he soon changes his tune. It’s revealed that Onoue’s male classmates find her to be a bit burdensome, as many of them have accidently caused nosebleeds when doing things like passing out worksheets, or passing by her in the classroom. Okita is surprisingly quick to stand up for her, and then makes a proposition to her right after: she needs to get used to being around men, so why not try dating him? He goes on to persuade her by telling her that scum like him won’t ever want a serious relationship, so he’s really the perfect guy to help her out. She accepts.
My thoughts on this volume
I enjoyed this sample enough that I’m upset there’s no physical release for this one! The art is beautiful, and both Onoue and Okita’s character designs fit them beautifully. While I do think this story does feel a tiny bit familiar, it actually drew me into it a little more. I love scummy man x honours student type romances, so I knew I was going to enjoy this just from the description.
Both Onoue and Okita have their time to shine in this chapter, with both defending the other. I think Onoue shined a little bit brighter in her scene, absolutely laying into a classmate whose girlfriend cheated With Okita. As Onoue is such a calm, peaceful character and very uncomfortable with men, her freaking out at him came out of absolutely nowhere. It caught me completely off guard, and it was in this scene that I began really rooting for her. She’s had it tough for so long! Hopefully Okita can help her out without causing her too much stress.
