My thoughts on this volume
While it’s safe to say that I really enjoyed volume one.. I loved volume two. We see Makoto already come to terms with the type of demon he wants to be, and that he wants to get to J’s level without any help. He’s a rather scary character, and we learn just how good he is at playing people in this volume.
He learns the importance of telling others what they want to hear in order to use them, and boy does he use them. I actually really enjoyed Makoto in this volume, as it’s shown that he’s clearly on a different level from just about every other character in this series.
Even when he’s met with his dad again, while it first it’s alluded that Makoto was upset with J for sending him in without any warning, that couldn’t have been any father from the case. Makoto was indeed upset with J for not warning him, but not because he loved and missed his dad. He hated his dad so terribly that it brought him almost down to tears, and was mad that he had to see him again. Of course, he’s completely fine just a few seconds later.
I’m excited to see just where Makoto goes from here, and I’m expecting to see only J able to say his actual name come next volume… But we’ll have to see.
Things I particularly enjoyed (Spoilers!)
❤️ Meeting J’s brother, and just how quick Makoto was to clock him — Makoto describing him as being more human than demon was a little scary, as it shows just how far he’s fallen in just 3 years.
🧡 Makoto testing Datensho to see if he can still say his name multiple times through the volume… and each time we see Datensho struggle more and more. Honestly I felt really bad for Datensho in this volume, but it was also insane character growth for Makoto.
💛 Makoto and Fjord’s friendship — it’s clearly not an actual friendship, but I really like Fjord’s character! While Makoto clearly thinks nothing of him at first, he clearly begins to see him as a threat as time goes on.
💚 Makoto being surprisingly good at talking around others — he really thinks nothing of people who are blunt and just say what they’re thinking. This also adds another level of “demoness” to him, in my opinion.
💛 The constant switching in tone from kind of silly, to really really creepy.
