What happens in chapter one?
This manga is split into three parts, each with its respective fairy tale: Snow White, The Little Mermaid, and Cinderella. The first two chapters cover Snow White’s story.
After being reincarnated into the body of Snow White, our heroine prepares herself. She knows the fairy tale quite well, so she’s well aware of the Queen’s discontent for her. So, before anything bad can happen to her, she runs away.
She only gets so far before she runs into the hunter—the man who, in the original story, is hired to kill Snow by the Queen. That much is the same in this retelling, but just about everything else about him is different. For one, he is incredibly handsome. He also just so happens to know where the seven dwarves live, and instructs Snow to take up residence there so that she can avoid the Queen.
The hunter makes a point to stay by Snow’s side as much as he can, clearly infatuated with her. Snow knows her own story though, and she understands her destiny is to eat the poisoned apple, and to be awakened by the kiss of a handsome prince. And just like clockwork, the Queen, disguised as an old witch, comes by the dwarve’s home in search of Snow. Snow greets the Queen, accepts the apple she knows is poisoned, and goes to take a bite. Before she can, the hunter shoots an arrow through the apple, stopping both women in their tracks.
My thoughts on this chapter
I love a good reimagining of a classic story, and I also love it when originally average characters are revamped into incredibly handsome men. Because, well, why not?
I’ve been a fan of the reincarnation trend for a while, and I enjoyed watching Snow try to use her knowledge of the story to get out of everything safely. I’m just upset the story ended where it did! I want to know what happened after the arrow went through the apple!
I assume the hunter in this story is actually the prince she is destined to end up with, but I would also be happy with him being a completely different character. After all, this is a retelling! We already saw Snow end up with one prince—why not let her get with a different handsome man this time around?
I really enjoyed the pacing and the artstyle of this series. So much so that I grew to be very attached to the story in just one chapter. I will be absolutely continuing on with this one!
