Kondo wa Korosaretakunai Azarashi-san / 今度は殺されたくないアザラシさん: Volume 2 Review

Umino has come to terms with the fact that now that she’s human, other humans probably won’t try to maul her to death. But… it’s still taking her some time to understand human emotions.

My thoughts about this volume

I actually enjoyed Volume Two a lot more than Volume One. My main complaint about Volume One was that the boss was a literal child, and thankfully, she was barely present in this volume.

I did enjoy seeing Umino and Kitamura go on their “date”, and it was very clear that the two of them clearly had some romantic feelings for each other. I thought it was very smart of Kitamura to invite Umino out to a work-related event, that way she wouldn’t feel any real pressure. It showed that he really does care about how she feels, and that he didn’t want to overwhelm her! I thought it was a sweet detail!

I didn’t love that basically their entire company made an appearance on this “date” though, as I do wish we could have watched the two of them interact more. The “date” felt like it was over before it started because of this.

I was also worried about the love triangle that looked like it may form back in volume one, but the orca’s presence did bring some much needed relationship tension. I think this series is more of an office comedy than an office romance series.

My favourite part of this volume

I really liked the introduction of the octopus character! He’s clearly a playboy, and it was good fodder for Kitamura to show his possessiveness over Umino. He was really only present in two scenes of the manga, but he absolutely stole the spotlight every time he made an appearance.

Other parts of this volume that I enjoyed

❤️ Kitamura getting all shy when the racoon told him it looked like they were on a date – Umino seemed unfazed, but he was clearly happy that they looked like a couple.

🧡 The orca giving up his first place prize just so he can get a bunch of cat food… He’s such an oddly cute character.

💛 Umino somehow knowing how many hearts an octopus has… Even if she was a seal in a past life, where would she have learnt that??

💚 Literally everything about the octopus.

💛 Kitamura and the orca defending Umino from the octopus for…reasons. It’s clear Kitamura’s reasons were romantic, but the orca’s motives are still unclear!

🧡 The racoon blatantly asking Kitamura’s friend if he could hit on her, and the friend saying no… but still giving her Instagram. I find her friend to be a very fun character!

❤️ Kitamura having to piggyback Umino home after she drank too much. I feel like this is a rather cliché scene, but I eat it up every time.
