What happens in chapter one?
Natori is a woman who seems to be in complete control of her life. Her younger coworkers find her to be completely dependable, her bosses see her as someone they can always count on, and she even has a younger boyfriend whom she takes care of. She often reminds her younger coworkers that they shouldn’t feel burdened when asking more experienced people for help; instead, they should in turn offer their help whenever they can to new hires.
Natori has a big secret hiding behind her dependable façade: she’s incredibly stressed out. While she doesn’t let anyone see, the number of things that she’s found herself having to do on a day-to-day basis is just exhausting. Her one outlet is smoking, though she takes great care to not let anyone in her office know this.
One day, it’s announced that there will be a new person coming up from Kansai to help in their office for a little while, a man named Chisuwa. Even at a glance, you can tell Chisuwa will be popular: he’s incredibly handsome and clearly is a hard worker, but Natori is clearly very unhappy with his presence.
We quickly learn that Chisuwa was actually the man who trained Natori years ago, and she wasn’t exactly quick to pick up the job. She’s very embarrassed to have him back in her life, and he’s very good at pushing her buttons. The thing that makes him difficult for Natori to deal with is the fact that he’s actually very good at his job, and a very good trainer. He often forces Natori to depend on him, reminding her it’s okay to not do everything by herself.
But, just as good as he is at his job, he’s also good at playing with people. Leaving him to sometimes tease Natori, and other times console her… and it’s almost never clear which one he’s going to do at any given time.
My thoughts about this chapter
I love a good office romance, and I also love a romance with playful banter! This series having both and so much more, makes it an instant “will continue reading” for me.
As Natori struggles with allowing herself to depend on others, it was sad to watch her boyfriend use that to his advantage. I found the scene with him to be pretty disgusting, but it just gives Chisuwa his chance to shine! I found his character to be rather charming from the beginning, and was glad to see that he clearly wants the best for Natori. I think she really needs someone like him in her life to help her out, and I’m so glad he appeared when he did!
This is an office romance series, so there probably will be some more cliché tropes popping up here and there, but that’s nothing to complain about. In this volume, while there wasn’t any clear romance, the mood is slowly being set. Now that Chisuwa has learnt that Natori is single, hopefully something will happen soon..?
What I liked most about this chapter
❤️ Chisuwa instantly going for Natori, and getting “blackmail” on her right away.
🧡 Natori clearly being the big sister in the office. Also she’s very stressed out, it’s nice to see how much her coworkers look up to and appreciate her.
💛 Chisuwa clearly understanding that Natori is in a lot of stress, and all but forcing her to take a break. Literally, it seems like she wouldn’t sleep unless she was told to at times.
🧡 Chisuwa joking around when he hugged Natori after hearing about the break-up – it was a cute panel.
