What happens in volume one? *mild spoilers*

In order to save her family from bankruptcy, Rachiel has taken it upon herself to find a rich husband. Her strengths? Handling taxes and claims. Her weaknesses? Romance. This makes it rather hard for her to find a rich husband, as while she is able to find men to agree to date her, they soon break up with her upon realizing she’s uncomfortable around them.

Feeling like she’s running out of time, she ends up making a last-ditch effort, proposing to the almost unbelievably rich Fahad. While her proposal is out of a need to obtain money, she tells him that she’s fallen in love with him and that she wants to marry out of love. She braces herself, clearly expecting to be rejected, but he surprisingly accepts her proposal.

Fahad is almost concerningly calm about just about everything and goes along with whatever Rachiel throws at him. He soon confesses to her that he knew all along that she was hoping to marry him for his money, as the gossip that she’s been making her way through only the rich single men in their city has been spreading like wildfire. He tells her that he also has his own reasons for needing a fiancée, and so the two continue on with their engagement.

What are their individual reasons for needing to stay engaged?

Fahad’s reason

He had actually been in an arranged relationship with someone his father picked out when he met Rachiel. He claims that this woman was actually one of his father’s lovers, and that she would cause his death were they to get married. So, he needs society to believe that he’s truly in love with Rachiel so that he can successfully break off his prior relationship without anyone losing face.

Rachiel’s reason

Rachiel is not the true successor to her family, which causes her to be looked down upon by their society. Her family is slowly running out of money, and neither of her parents really seem to care all that much. They are very much against the idea of their daughter marrying for any reason besides love, so Rachiel needs to have her parents believe she truly fell in love with Fahad so that she can marry him and use his money to help her family.

What I liked most about this volume

❤️ Fahad’s kind of ~aloof~ attitude. He’s a character that I find rather difficult to read, and that just makes me like him more! Sometimes he’s very carefree, and other times he means business. I’m curious if we’ll see more sides to him as the manga goes on.

🧡 Fahad’s former fiancée – he describes her as someone who was plotting to kill him, but I’m wondering if there’s more to her than that. Either way, it brings an exciting new layer to the plot! I was a little bit on edge when she visited again later on when Fahad wasn’t around. I can see her both being an actually kind, misunderstood character, and a cunning, manipulative character.

💛 A strong female lead!! I love how Rachiel is able to be strong in many different aspects of her life, but also kind of clumsy in others. I enjoyed learning more about her, and seeing how so many of the characters near her respect her for all of the hard work she puts in.

💚 Rachiel’s maid, Iba – I love how she has no problems with standing up for Rachiel when necessary. I’m really hoping we get to see more of her character in the next volume!

💙 The clothing – I really love the setting that the author decided to go with! It allows the characters to wear such beautiful, unique clothing!

💜 Rachiel finding the confidence to announce that she likes Fahad for his nice face and money. She thinks it countless times throughout the volume, but it was really funny when she actually said it when asked what she liked most about him.
