Firefly Wedding Volume Two : Manga Review Recap

If you thought volume one was crazy… Readers are taken for an absolute ride in volume two. This volume contains a crazy obsessive male lead, a female lead that is independent and clever, and quite a bit of drama.

What happens in volume 2?

**spoiler warning, this volume is a bit dark**

Just like Shinpei proposed, we see Satoko working at the lowest prostitution house in this volume. Though she only began working there in order to see one specific customer in order to get off the island, Shinpei has been keeping an eye on her to make sure no man “accidently” comes into contact with her.

While the man she meets seems to be a surprisingly kind man, all but offerening to take her back to the mainland without much prompting, his tune changes quickly. This man, unbeknownst to Satoko, has a split personality that comes out when drunk. It just so happens that one of the other women working at the house has it in for Satoko, and spiked her customers drink, hoping he would rape her.

Though the man is immediately violent with Satoko, Shinpei is thankfully there to stop him before he can seriously harm her. In protecting her, Shinpei all but kills the man (well deserved, IMO). Once he comes back to his senses, he promises to deliver a message to Satoko’s father back on the mainland as a form of repentance.

We learn that the very woman who attempted to have Satoko assaulted has feelings for Shinpei, and that they had been sleeping together until very recently. Shinpei, having the reputation of rescuing prostitutes from rowdy clients, is rather used to the attention, and doesn’t really understand why Satoko isn’t exactly pleased with him when she learns about their (former) relationship.

Come the end of this volume, Satoko and Shinpei are still stuck on the island… but at least they have each other, right?

What I liked most about this volume

❤️ Shinpei creepily watching Satoko from the roof of her meeting room – at first I was amused about just how strange he was being, but I quickly grew to being very thankful that he was keeping such a close eye on her.

🧡 When Shinpei delivered the fireflies to Satoko after she collapsed – while he’s mistaken about just about everything, when he gets it right, he really gets it right.

💛 Can we trust the would-be assaulter to deliver the message? – I like that he was left a loose end come the end of this volume! I really hope that he feels enough shame that he pulls through.

💚 Satoko literally not being able to not be true to herself – I really did feel for her at first when she made her confession to Shinpei, and I was so worried that he was indeed going to leave her! They’re so incredibly dysfunctional, but I think his coming back for her is a good sign.

💙 Shinpei being a little freak for Satoko even after getting shot.
